Sid Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 I think one of the reasons is that he never gets a decent look-in. There are so many waiting in the wings that as soon as you fail a couple of times somebody else takes the batting spot. But he did perform ok in the last T20 cup - he was the batsman who looked most at home in WI. I think when you talk about not getting a look in,you are wrong,he has got enough chances to prove himself at various positions in the batting order and he has failed miserably. He was given a no.3 spot by Dhoni right after the 1st IPL during kitply cup and Asia Cup and he didnt grab his chances.Then Raina got a chance to bat at no.3 and he made the spot his own for some time till Gauti started batting at No.3. Then he was given no. of oppurtunites in other positions in middle order but he failed to play a single innings of note.Even in the last Asia cup and some ODI series in SL he got consistent chances ,but he failed miserably.Something is wrong somewhere with him at intl. level.

However, taking IPL performances into account is not a great idea for any player, let along someone like Rohit. Also remember that he is a good T20 player, even in international cricket. Very good record. He should always be in our T20 team. He doesn't have to look far for inspiration. Raina and Kohli are two fine examples. This applies not just to Rohit also to guys like Uthappa. There is not much doubt in his capability. But capability doesn't mean they will give you free runs.

Rohit would be better off looking at someone like the big 3 or even Gambhir (closer to his age).

If this turn-around can inspire Indian youngsters, all the better for Indian cricket.
