He was bowling well within himself and hence the lower speeds. Did crank it up whenever he put the additional effort. But his line and length was quite accurate today. Was getting the ball to zip off the surface. Wonder why DD did not pick him for earlier games.
Only explanation that I can come up with is, Viru didn't believe in him and didn't want to play him. Viru gone as captain, he immediately is in the playing XI. Shows the captaincy skills, or lack thereof, of Viru. DD made a poor choice.

no..speed guns are not consistent today....and also chennai is very hot and humid. i have seen him bowl at 144 ks avg pace for 10 overs in devhdar trophy one day match. he is just coming out of injury and a quite a long lay off too...though. i have watched quite a few videos of him and he certainly averages 140+ for even long spells. and maybe he was trying to be accurate here...T20 is more about accuracy. his last ball of last over was 144k..and he was mixing the pace well. those shown in 130s were not 130s as agarkar was shown in 120s..
The speed gun was not working properly today. Some of Varun's faster deliveries, where he clearly beat the batsmen by pace, were shown as about 128k. Surely they were quicker than that. He looked quick today especially in the first 3 overs and was definitely faster than Agarkar who bowls about 130k to 142k these days. Varun's fastest ball today was 147.4k although today's speed gun reading carried little meaning. Varun bowled straight today and that is a big plus. He also tried 2 yorkers in the last over. Did he bowl some indippers when he pitched the ball up ?

Difference between yadav and aaron is their bowling style..Yadav bowls a bit wide of the crease so he provides the batsman angles to wok with and sometimes bowls too short and leg sidish, while Aaron bowls close to the stumps so his delivery goes straight and he dos not give any angle or much width to the batsman...his action is pretty much like Ben Hilfenhaus...

The guy has to be picked and in squad for at least 18 months. We have to be patient with him as he will have bad days as well. He is not Malcolm Marshall reincarinated and is going to come in bowl 100mph and take 8 wickets a game. He is decent prospect and has potential to be good performer, he is certainly better then a lot of other indian bowlers as we are not blessed in this dept. He will need time to develop and from being in squad for period am sure will improve massivley in 18 months. Get him in and let him develop and be patient. Even ZK was woeful at times and only really developed in to class performer in his second stint with team after 1 year out. Aaron has whell and can bowl 145, although does not do it every ball. But if he clocks 140 thats more then enough, also was reverse swining it which is something ishant does not really do

and he is still only 21-22 and can certainly a bit more speed till he reaches at his peak at around 25-26 years of age....he is a power bowler does not depend on rhythm unlike sreeshanth and Ishant...who bowls quick when in rhythm only...

Yes that's a good point. This guy uses his strength primarily to push that pacy bowl but T20 was making him smart n I feel he bowled good short balls pacy short balls though the Speed gun read 132K it looked like a 142K ball as badri n dhoni missed those balls so one has to also C from naked eys rather then just beleiving on the speed gun...some 131K balls looked 142+ ysterday

Yes I am diss appointed by Umesh... He seems to be messing up with his career... Though I feel he is as fast as Varun or I would say faster then Varun most of the time,if he handles himself well , he definitely can be ahead of Vinay in the indian team. I feel selectors shud have picked Umesh Yadav or Varun in todays team to west indies as I believe that Praveen and Munaf may not Suceed much in WI bcos of lack of pace n bounce( Munaf has slow bounce)......Vinay has a good short ball and he is kinda a wicket taker bowler...if ishant is in rhythm his buckets will be full of wickets. Munaf wiLl stop runs and then he if he induces mistakes he may get wickets, Praveen can only ball with new BAll so he is a bit of a incomplete baller even for a one day...let s see if he manages to suceed in WI Sreesanth should have been picked, even now Sreesanth and Umesh can be picked for Test matches....what say.

Wow this guy is exciting, great bowling today. Clocking consistently over 140, with a couple reaching high 140s and clocking 149. Speed gun is spot on as well cos I Pathan is still clocking 125 max. Bowling good lenghs as well. He should be in India squad NOW. Needs to be in indian set up for development etc

And remember he is just 21 years of age. IF he maintains his fitness and also work hard on his stamina he can certainly gain a yard of pace in the next 2 years....means he can consistently bowl over 145+ in the future by gaining 5-6 KPH of average pace...with maximum pace around 155K

If only DD had picked him for all the matches where he was available, he could well have created the required buzz around him and got picked for WI tour. Looks damn impressive and unlike Yadav doesn't spray the ball. On pitches woith some bounce and juice, he could be a wonderful addition to our attack.

Kirsten and Simmons used to call up pacers to be with the team on some of the tours. Yadav and Unadkat were called to Sri Lanka when we toured last. Will not be a bad idea to send a bunch of bowlers like Varun, Yadav and even RPS to be with the team on WI tour. Will give them a chance to work on their fitness and also work with the bowling coach on their bowling besides giving better options in the nets for the batting unit.

Good point, definitely worth keeping them in the mix.

Hopefully BCCI will do it. Fletcher is very keen on pace bowlers so he will drive for his inclusion

He would be ideal for england tour' date=' shame he was not picked for windies tour. He just did not get enough exposure to get picked, selctors must have seriously considered him[/quote'] Indian selectors chose ODI team for FC performances or only IPL...that is the difference between other countries selections. They need to see ODD performances as well.

Mishra and Vinay Kumar were picked based on the ODD performance. DD management should have picked Varun for earlier games, he would have been a certainty for the WI tour if he had bowled more in this IPL before the team selection.

I liked his spell today. I would have picked him instead of Vinay in the team to WI. But I dont think even Vinay would get a chance and probably it will be Munaf and Praveen unless we go for a third seamer.
