Who is Fletcher?: Dev

You are confusing two things. I am not talking about his misfortune or his non-selection (which is another story), rather about people who think he doesn't even deserve a look in, like the guy you borrowed a term from. :winky: M. Vijay is fighting for a backup opener spot and he has done reasonably well filling that role when he has gotten the chance, Badri is fighting for a permanent middle order spot, so there is no point in comparing the two. Can you say with a straight face that a guy with his FC performance wouldn't have gotten a chance to play a single test so far if he was from NZ or WZ?
Yes, I can say with straight face that what happened with Badri, might very well happen to a person from any zone - be it NZ and WZ. And for that matter Badri has got to play couple of test matches. Rahane averaging 68 and I don't see any possibility of him getting into indian team sometime soon. Historically there have been guys who have scores tons of runs in domestic cricket but never got a proper run at national level. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/33943.html Sorry mate I don't see any regional bias behind Badri getting ignored. We have had very stable middle order in last few years, where at the most one spot has been up for grab. So one-two test matches what most of the new comers going to get. Though I admit Badri has been relatively unlucky.

So spot keeps opening up (since Ganguly retired) and the guy keeps getting ignored and it is all due to luck :dontknow:

Why only one or two tests to fill a spot? I think it is unfair for any player, be it Pujara or Raina or Kohli or Badri. I just wish we give a decent run to someone, so that we can start filling the spots.

Dev averaged 23 with the ball against the Number1 side of his era - West Indies While Javagal against Australia - the Number1 side of his era - averaged 42 overall and a poor 50 in Australia . India was regarded as a minnow side while Dev made his debut but he retired as the leading wicket taker in the world , while during Srinath's era the Indian side was much more balanced compared to the team in the 80s , we had some good batsmen and a good support bowler in Kumble.
I'm not questioning Kapil's credentials. But definitely, Srinath by no means was a trundler-He was the fastest bowler from India, if not from the world-at that time.

The only thing that has gone against Badri is perhaps the fact that in the practice matches vs visitng teams, younger batsman have outperformed him. In fact even in Irani trophy matches, Badri has been outperformed by younger players. Also lacks the flamboyance and does not have a god father nor has the backing of the journalists covering the game to get hyped up for his feats in domestic cricket.

You cannot ruin a career just by looking at 2 or 3 matches. We would have lost a decent stable middle order batsman. Yuvraj has done well in a tour match. Look at his pathetic batting at the test level. Not everyone will turn out to be Laxman or Azharuddin. But i agree next time he gets a chance he should grab it almost immediately much like Mike Hussey. But he has definitely gotten better since i saw him last. He is more positive these days. Even in domestic Ranji his strike rate was 99.

I'm not a huge fan of Badri but it makes little sense to give a player just two Tests and then dump him, especially when he makes a fifty under huge pressure on debut. If you think he's not good enough for the highest level (most batsmen aren't, no matter their FC record), don't play him, but if you think he is, give him a proper run. This applies to any player.

There again Kapil Dev in his days was much superior compared to trundlers like Prasad ' date= Srinath and even better than present day Zaheer /Sreesanth . Regarding Rathore maybe you arent aware but he averaged close to 50 in FC cricket and with no decent Test Batsmen in the team barring Sachin and Azhar he deserved his chances which were few anyways , the competition in batting line-up is too strong now-a-days so its not possible for guys like Badrinath to get a place in the team as easily as Rathore did , other cricketers were tried for a few matches and dumped instantly after a series or two unlike Great Tamil Superstar Murli Vijay who has surprised everyone after being selected for one series after another inspite of repetitive failures .
You just proved to me that you are a class A *******. Kthxbai..

I don't see other southern states playing the victim card' date=' so no need to drag them into your insular arguments.[/quote'] Massah are they allowed to speak for themselves or will you be speaking for all of them? They have had even less luck with selection (except Karnataka) than TN, Considering that you are not willing to openly say that there is no bigotry between north and south Indian people it is rather funny you claling my argument insular. I could be just as dismissive of the nonsense you are spouting.

The fact of the matter is right now the bulk majority of the best players happen to be punjabi origin players...this is merit wise as I think it is clear. In the past the best players were from south India e.g Bangalore Firm Dravid, Kumble Srinath etc I dont care if all 11 players are from Andaman Nicobar Islands as long as they are the best 11 players. Problem is as soon as an Indian coach gets his reins he's probably going to have to politicize the team. This is a huge disadvantage that countries like Australia never have to worry about and by putting a foreigner in charge partially negates this.

Precisely. It would be nice to know if we have some one from Karnataka, AP or even Kerela here who is trying to protect the people from South against the Northern bullies. All I see is folks from one state self appointing themselves as the protectors of Southern states. India is moving on mate, we need a foreign coach for his tactical nuance, not his state of origin. I'd be delighted to have Kumble coach us when he is ready for it. I'd also be thrilled to have Dravid become our batting coach or Srinath our bowling coach. I don't even care where they come from, they played for India and they are Indians. Your mindset reflects that of the coach of your favorite football team: Victim.

Just as you proved the same to me long time ago . Thankfully majority of the Indian Cricket supporters including the Tamils arent as narrow minded as you are and rejoice over the success of our team rather than moaning over inclusion/exclusion of any players to satisfy there own inflated egos . You are just a one off Moron who lives is his self made fantasy of bigotry . None of your Badri's , Ashwin's , Vijay's are going to get as much support compared to what a Maharashtrian Tendulkar gets from Chennai crowd , thats what cricket and its attachment to the common man is all about which is way above the barriers of Religion or Language in India .
