someone Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Undoubting one of the biggest myths in Indian Cricket which is Irfan Pathan. Curious case where people still believe he is a still "young" player with "potential". And then there is another Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, shown potential but is he capable for being a batsman for a long run or rather a hit and miss player? While on the other hand, there is Jadeja, who is foolishly abused by our internet warriors. This guy has shown he is among the best in the domestics. So who is the better for the all rounder among the 3 of them for Team India for present and for future?

saneindian Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 We have got plenty of good batsmen who can do a decent job with their spin bowling. What we need is someone who can bowl 7-8 good overs of seams consistently at 80+mph and then bat decently in the lower order. This is the reason why Irfan is talked more as someone with potential. If only he could sort his bowling out, there's no force which will stop from walking into our final 11. An Irfan Ptahn bowling well with the new ball gives the team the additional balance as then we do not have to play the additional 3rd seamer. Jadeja on the other hand is competing with someone like Yusuf Pathan for that no. 7 slot. And so far Yusuf is far ahead of Jadeja especially after his 100s vs NZ and SA (and despite his failures in the WC).

The 7th batsmen for the Indian team when in full strength should be Kohli though he should bat at higher position (no.4) and maybe Raina or Dhoni bat at no.7 .. waah kya batting lineup hoga wo jisme Raina ko no.7 aana pare .. lineup dekh ke hi opposition bowlers ki waat lag jayegi :yay::yay:

He is still the second highest run getter in the WC and now one of the top run getters in IPL too. He would play a few years of ODI for sure in the current form. Let him retire when he wishes. Once he retires we do not need a no.4 but a no. 7 which would be Pathan/Jadeja/Irfan/any allrounder .. Raina is too good to be no.7 and at least I would make him no.6 once Sachin retires in a few years.. UV is fine for no.4 and Gauti is also a good opener and has done opening with Veeru for long.. Kohli is a very good no.3 too... everybody needs to be promoted then instead of forcing a batsmen and denying these guys a promotion in the battng order .. in ODI our team is more or less settled even after Sachin's retirement .. Tests would be somewhat of a concern after the retirement of the trio .. to be frank, retirement of Zak would be a bigger problem than retirement of Sachin in the two formats unless we find some quality bowlers soon .. hope these Yadavs and Aarons would learn the tricks and become world class pacers by then
youngindia Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Irfan has to keep his place by bowling and he can be a useful bat. he has to develop skills with the older ball to be effective...but he is getting his inswing back. he has to be below no 7. Jadeja can be an ideal no 7 bat who can use the long handle when required but also build partnerships when more than 100 runs are required. Again he is a developing player and has a long way to go to become an established international.he is a useful bowler as a no 5.his progress has been very impressive seeing him in the IPL.lots of class evident already.but his best is years down the line ,not now. yusuf is technically weaker than jadeja and has less ability to last longer in an innings but he is a middle aged guy who is at or close to his peak and a premier striker of the ball. no upside potential in his case.

So for the future, we still need all rounder from them, which one? For me, clearly Jadeja, shown constant improvement and far more reliable.

So for the future, we still need all rounder from them, which one? For me, clearly Jadeja, shown constant improvement and far more reliable. Yusuf Pathan still edges ahead of Jadeja. Jadeja is yet to play a long innings to show he can be the no 7 we are looking for. Pathan on the other hand, did well in the NZ series and the SA series. Had a few failures in the WC, but should not be discarded on that basis alone. Jadeja though on the basis of his IPL form will surely be the part of any India A tours. However, if (and a big IF) Irfan can continue to bowl like he has been in the last 2-3 games, getting the ball to curve in, bowling consistent line and length and usually around 81-82 mph, he will be ahead of both Yusuf and Jadeja purely because of the things he did when he was a permanent member of the team. Also out of the three, only Irfan looks to have a realistic chance of playing test matches in the future. In fact, if he sorts out his bowling, he would be an automatic choice for the test team. Jadeja and Yusuf will have to improve miles as a bowler to even have a shot at the final 15 for a test.
