ravishingravi Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 "Colagero: Is it better to be loved or feared? Sonny: That's a good question. It's nice to be both but it's very difficult. But if I had my choice, I'd rather be feared. Fear lasts longer than love. Friendships that are bought with money mean nothing. You see how it is around here, I make a joke --everybody laughs. I know I'm funny, but not that funny. It's fear that keeps them loyal to me. But, the trick is not to be hated. That's why I treat my men good, but not too good. I give them too much they don't need me. I give them just enough where they need me, but they don't hate me. Don't forget what I'm telling you." I couldn't help but read this and relate to current situation.
EnterTheVoid Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Better to be respected. You may hate someone's guts completely but if they earn your respect, than they're doing something right.
Vijay.Sharma Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Love and fear are the same thing essentially just that their perspectives are flipped 180 degrees. Personally I am not one to force an artificial constraint such as love or fear. I think both of them can be experienced and basically you need one to experience the other...it's like this - we live in a relative universe and relativity is essential for us to give meanings to experiences. So for us to experience love we need to experience (or at least be aware of) fear. Similarly we can experience fear only if we know what love is. Once we realize that no event / experience has meaning in itself and that all the meaning (feeling of love, hate, fear, good, bad) we associate with it is relative, we become more accepting and tolerant of things in our life. Of course this doesn't mean one must forget his individuality and become totally like a buddha. It only means that when we love or fear someone or invoke that feeling in them for us, we are aware that it is a conscious choice and that it has great purpose in shaping our own lives than what is apparent. I wanna be loved, feared, admired and preferably not hated. But I know some people hate me and for that I do not feel bad or hold any grudges because i realize that their hatred is giving me a reference point which allows me to experience admiration, love, fear, etc from others. After all without their hatred how would I realize that someone else's admiration is worth being cherished? The universe is truly relative.
