One name you will ALWAYS find in the list of the most economical spinners -Ravichandran Aswhin! :hatsoff: And this is precisely the reason I find it staggering that Piyush was chosen over Ashwin over several world cup matches. What more does Ashwin have to do, to establish his credentials as one of the standout spinners in ODIs and T20s, in the world? And if that doesnt boggle your mind, the selection of Sreesanth over Ashwin for the final of the WC against Lanka.. Woah! The Lankans were 100/2 after 25 overs. This was probably THE most important phase of the game till then. At a time when we were supposed to be tightning the screws and piling the pressure on, here was Dhoni, in a mad rush to complete Sreesanth's quota of overs. After the start they got, the Lankans should have NEVER gotten to 275 (the max should have been 245, even accounting for a late-innings blitz). But the baffling tactics of the team nearly cost us the cup.

Dhoni usually makes a lot of right decisions on the field, but his team selection leaves a lot to be desired. If we had lost the WC final, Dhoni head would have probably rolled due to these weird decisions.

Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. But what was the rationale behind ignoring one of our standout spinners in all of India in the last 18 months, for somebody who has the ignominy of being the world’s most expensive ODI bowler, EVER?

I think there was nothing for the spinners on that pitch. and there was dew factor, so had to go with 3 seamers. Only problem 3rd seamer was Sreesanth. Remember Murlitharan and Randiv struggled in later half

And choice of Piyush Chawla in so many of the WC matches was baffling. While MSD is "Time Magazine" most influential and all that after WC win, his team selection leaves a lot to be desired. Some people claim that he has "the results" in terms of the WC win etc, so he can do whatever he wants. But choice of Chawla and Sreesanth does make one question the selection. Also - why was Sreesanth not even given a game against Netherlands? Even on ICF - ppl were suggesting a game for Sreesanth (possibly Netherlands or so) - just to at least keep him ready as a reserve for later matches (if need comes). He played the first match, warms the benches and then out of the blue comes for the Final? Very risky.

Aaron and Yadav might have got more matches if both were not in the same team .. similarly DC took all the bowlers
