Ever dreamed of turning lights on and off with your Android smartphone? Want to push music around the house like iPhone fanboys can with AirPlay. Google is bringing that to you with Android @ Home and Google Tungsten, their latest creations. Android @ Home will consist of a series of open source libraries which developers will be able to use to create home automation apps on the Android platform. Any device plugged into an Android @ Home receiver will work with Android's automation API's. Imagine carrying your tablet or phone around the house, and if you forgot to shut off a light or appliance, you can do it remotely by tapping a button on your screen. Or, imagine your house turning into a giant, Android-powered media streamer. Google Tungsten combines the Android @ Home framework with the Google Music cloud, resulting in system of audio streamers in the hope that function much like Sonos or Airplay-enabled devices. In the demo at Google IO, they showed off a little glowing box connected to speakers. Using your Android device, they pushed music to the device from Google Music, and theoretically could do the same for as many connected audio zones as you need. Standalone devices that used to do this in the past seemed too gimmicky and pieced together to have a place in our daily lives. But because Android @ Home works these ideas into a device that we use all the time, it makes the idea of a smarthome alluring.
Sounds phenomenal. Google is unlocking the full potential of linux. :bow:

Just throwing this out there' date=' has anyone ever tried at developing their own applications for the android?[/quote'] I have used their SDK to build very simple applications like notepad etc. Never tried my hand at a complex app

I have tried my hands at a few different API's and out of those, Android is probably the most user friendly. Helps theres a mountain of information out there. Some API's are so atrociously documented, I have no idea how anybody expects people to use them. I used this one when I worked for the defence and good god, this was ****ing awful. An absolute ****ing nightmare to program in: http://www.rti.com/

Integration of all home appliances in one network will open up many interesting possiblities. Some day in future, your refrigerator will be able to monitor the amount of milk and call the grocer to order before it get's over. You can monitor what your children are watching on tv when you are away. FML entries will read like: Today my phone was stolen. The thief shut down my air-conditioning and ran porno all night on my tv. FML. Time is not far when we will be living in a could literally.

Probably gonna get the evo 3d.
I'm tempted to get a 3D fone, but not sure what it will be like in reality, the concept seems brilliant especially when using AR apps, but in reality how would the 3D look??

Google launches ‘Chromebook’ computers Chrome OS laptops will launch in the UK on June 15 and challenge Microsoft for domination of home and office computers

Google has unveiled the first two computers that will use its own operating system, Chrome OS. Made by Samsung and Acer, the devices will launch in seven countries including the UK on 15 June. “A little less than two years ago we set out to make computers much better. Today, we’re announcing the first Chromebooks from our partners, Samsung and Acer. These are not typical notebooks,” wrote Linus Upson, Vice President of Engineering and Sundar Pichai, Senior Vice President, Chrome on the Google blog. The new laptops build on the CR-48 laptop that Google has been trialling with users. They will cost from $349, and UK pricing is set to be announced shortly. Google’s Chrome OS is based on the Chrome web browser that is now used by 160m people around the world. Its aim is to encourage people to use web-based applications, and Google claims that most tasks can be accomplished online. For those that cannot, Google has worked with Citrix and VMWare to allow access to other software. Chrome OS emphasises its speed, simplicity and security, with software updates beings rolled out immediately and automatically. Photos and music can be uploaded directly to the internet and then accessed across a range of devices. Sergey Brin, Google’s co-founder, described it as “a new model of computing”, although he added that he didn’t think “there’s anything inherently wrong with Windows”. Samsung’s laptop, called the Series 5 features an Intel N570 1.66Ghz Dual Core processor, 16GB of storage and a 12.1-inch screen. Battery life will last “all day”, according to Pichai. It is officially quoted at 8.5 hours. The Acer product has similar specifications with a slightly smaller screen. Optional 3G connectivity means users can be online all the time, although Google also announced enhanced offline access would be delivered later in the summer for Google Docs, Calendar and Gmail. A deal with network Three will provide 3G access in the UK as a package with the 3G-enabled Chromebook, but all machines will allow users to swap to other networks. For education and business users, Google also announced subscription plans that will provide both hardware and software to users for $20 and $28 per month respectively. UK pricing will be announced nearer the time. Other devices are also expected to follow rapidly. Google also announced that for web applications – small programmes to enhance Chrome – it would take just five per cent of revenue. Its own Android store, for instance takes 30 per cent and Apple’s subscription services also take 30 per cent.

Last week started working on a complex one (not in terms of API). Core Android SDK is good only if you want to develop some native applications. If you like to develop webapps for mobiles, then there are better options than Android SDK. - Phonegap, Appcelerator, SenchaTouch and many more HTML5/javascriot based toolkits.
