But in general, Vijay of IPL 4 is changed from the Vijay of IPL 3 (rightly named the monk), the mannerisms, the movements, even the style of talking have got an air of cockiness about them.

And thats completely predictable.. what else can we expect? The guy's life couldnt get rosier.. Everybody knows he's the back-up test opener, that too in a side whose batsmen have been SOOOOOOOO formidable, guys with unbelievably FC records like Badri, Amol Majumdar, Rahane cannot break in.. And very soon, with VVS, Dravid and Sachin set to retire from tests and Sehwag indicating that he'd like to move to the middle order, he could well become the first-choice opener within 15-18 months. Couldnt get better right? And if that wasnt enough, he just landed a what i am almost sure is at least million and a quarter dollars a year contract with CSK, for the next 3 years, when they chose to retain him. The guy's life, for all practical purposes, is pretty much settled. He has gone from Mr.Obscure-guy-who-got-selected-to-open-in-a-bizzare-selectorial decision to Mr. Back-up India opener/multi-millionaire, in a matter of 2 years! Under those circumstances, it is but natural to relax at least a little bit.. I am fine with doing his little shenanigans on the cricket field, only as long as it doesnt prevent him from doing what is right for the team, whether its the Chennai Super Kings, or more importantly, TEAM India. If it gets to a point where you get so caught up in your gimmick routine that it actually begins to hamper your focus on the game in hand, like it so often happens for someone like Sreesanth, then, i am sorry brother - you have absolutely no place in the team. Team and team's interests FIRST, everything else NEXT. I am not totally sure about this, but i think MSD did relegate him to the short fine-leg position after that Hodge drop of his, clearly indicating that he wasnt entirely happy about the casual attitude with with he approached that catch.. And in case our spot in the top 2 is confirmed before csk's final game, i wouldnt be surprised to see him 'rested' for that game as well.
yoda Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I was seeing a replay of that and he clearly "dropped the ball" on that one. Didn't move, tried acting smart and it was possibly the worst effort by any fielder in a match that I have ever seen.

If you want to be a successful international cricket, you need to have a buffalo skin. You cant be wasting your time/emotion, reacting to every piece of criticism, just or otherwise, that comes your way.
