Yes that is also an achievment but Sachin has been the best in all formats in that time frame. I have seen people comparing Sachin to Ryan Giggs just because they both have played for a very long time. Its not apt. Courtney, for all the years that he played and for all the records he had, was never really the best around in the business. I felt his wickets at times were also because of the beast at the other end called Curtly Ambrose. I am not trying to degrade this great fast bowler but sadly this comaprision with Sachin is not at all viable.

And question is is he best fast bowlers? Or someone like Lindall is better than him. Do anyone thinks longetivity which he achieved is actually impossible for a fast bowler? He was gentleman enough not to attempt to hit the batsmanI don't think his career was the longest for a fast bowler. He debuted in 1984(?) and went on till 2001. Imran did from 71-92. Kapil did 78-94, Wasim did 85-2003, Waqar did 89-2003, Marshall did 78-93(?), McGrath did 93(?)-2007. I think Walsh blossomed during the second half of his career...in many ways the 1994 visit to India when he was made captain signaled a change in his wicket taking fortunes. IIRC, during that tour Ambrose, who was the more celebrated of the two at that time, was injured and walsh basically led a slightly inexperienced attack. I remember Cuffy was there...maybe it was his debut series. Walsh became Atlas of WI fast bowling since then every time Ambrose missed a tour.

And I dont get the link b/w longevity and being a gentleman and being a great fast bowler. But he wasn't the best fast bowlers of all times. I woudl rate people like Wasim, McGrath, Marshall and Donald above him. That my opinion though.
Ultimate_Game Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Sachin is great not coz of his longevity alone but coz he was the best batsman for such a long time. Walsh only had longevity going for him but he was never the best bowler around. Likes of Wasim, Ambrose, McGrath etc. were always ahead of him. Walsh was more Miandad of bowlers - long career but a decent player, not the best.
