Shouldn't the hospital where he donated ( or the private businessman who ran the urology department) his kidney do a mandatory age check? The hospital is responsible for renting out its Urology department to shady characters who take kidneys from minors.

You are presenting isolated cases as a phenomena.

And had India not been a part of the final I wouldn't have even gone to Wankhede and spent 10+hours watching a cricket game on a weekend. But it was a fairy tale ending and totally worth every second and Rupee expended. :icflove:

I don't know about China, but in many countries, selling organs is illegal. You can donate, but you can not sell for money or gifts. Yet, people do it. Most possibly the hospital and the doctors were bribed. When a rich man needs a vital organ, he would do anything for it. As the story tells us, part of the hospital was rented to some businessman.

The logic being that no one can hinder the recipient of the organ/blood from gifting the donor anything out of goodwill. Of course, such a 'gift' is like a transaction, but it wouldn't be a signed contract. It then becomes very difficult to segregate between donation and selling. Some countries allow donation only post death ( can't remember examples). Some countries allow donation even when the person is alive. And some don't allow for any donation. If donations are not permissible, then the hospital is in big trouble. But all this is only how it works in an ideal situation. Don't know the ground reality in China.

The donor (if not blood related) usually has to report to a court before donating and submit all required paper for identification and if any kind of monetary exchange takes place between the donor and the recipient with regards to the donation, it will be considered criminal. The law exists to discourage poor people in financial trouble to resort to organ selling. In spite of the law, organ smuggling is a prospering business in India.

You go on a donor list and this gets matched off to a recepient on the waiting list thereby ensuring that you cannot donate to a sepcific person who is not a family member. I don't know any country where organ donation is illegal.
