Cricket Tragic Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 A slightly different question' date=' [b']any idea when the rest of the test squad is traveling to WI? The 1st test starts there after 4 days and we are yet to hear about the travel plans of RD, VVS, MSD, Mithun, Vijay, Mukund and Ojha. Ideally all of them should have been in Windies now. But guess it will be the case of out of the plane and straight into the test match. I read an interview with Laxman a few days back. They left on Sunday to join the team before the 5th ODI since the venue is the same for the 1st test.

I read they were scheduled to leave on Sunday but it was delayed: The Test team was supposed to leave on the 12th of this month but it has now been delayed.
Sooda Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 That 167 was imperial from the Classy VVS I agree that he should stay there for the tests. He has shown great temperament and have played nice and easy. He has been very fluent in this tour and I expect him to dominate in the Longer format as well. Its a Yes from my side, but its the opinion of the selectors that counts, so lets hope they pick him instead of the clueless Badri. All I know is that Badri being their favourite due to many reasons (State, Franchise favouritism) will get his chances ahead of Rohit. So lets hope one of the senior players decide to opt out and Rohit gets his chance No, if he does play it is beccause his FC record is fantastic. He deserved this chance, regardless of how well or not he has done Rohit should probably have been in from the outset instead of Raina, it would be unusual but maybe he shoudl really. Would be a major vote of no confidence in Badri though.
Cricket Tragic Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Nah, let him play another season of FC cricket and earn the test cap. We can bring him in next year if he keeps his form up. There is a minnow series against the Padosis next year where he can be allowed to get a feel of tests.
cowboysfan Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Who is in line to make the squad if a batsmen is injured?
Karan114 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Who is in line to make the squad if a batsmen is injured? Surely Rohit? Pujara and Yuvraj are injured and it doesn't seem Rahane is in the mix.
saneindian Posted June 15, 2011 Author Posted June 15, 2011 Good news, the rest of the test squad is already in WI. A news channel showed a video shot of MSD, VVS, RD and Fletcher together with Eric Simmons and Trevor Penny in WI.
jusarrived Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 2 good innings & suddenly people want to play him ahead of Kohli ? am on of Rohits biggest fans , wanted him in the test team even when he was struggling in ODI's , but ahead of Kohli ? no way ..not cos Virat is a better player , but based on performance there is no other youngster who deserves a test cap more than him atm . Ideally I would have wanted both though .

desi pride 1234 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 badri was not selected because he is not as talented as rohit or uv. they deserve the chances for india's future in test cricket.

I understand that they support Rohit staying back in the squad want to see him ahead of Raina/Badri but not Kohli :cantstop:
desi pride 1234 Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 thats ok ' date=' but now that hes selected ..is he so underserving ?[/quote'] he looked absolutely clueless against pace. do u want him in the team?

jusarrived Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 he looked absolutely clueless against pace. do u want him in the team? Badri is not clueless against pace , seen enough of him to say he plays both pace and spin quite well . yes , hes not the most talented we have , but hes not the types who throws his wicket away & has got a lot of experience behind him ..Ideally I would want all the youngsters , say VK , Rohit , Rahane , Pujara , Mukund in the team & performing , but realestically I have doubts each one of them to have great starts to their career , unlikely all of them will start scoring heavily from the very first test ..now we have 3-4 spots to fill in the middle order in next couple of yrs & 7-8 youngsters competing for those spots ..may be 2-3 will click , thats where Badri can come in as a stop gap till we have replacements for all the batsmen . Badrinath is easily a 45-50 avg batsmen imo .

Would be a major vote of no confidence in Badri though. He has been performing well for years in FC Cricket, but I think West Indies tour hasn't been all that great for him, so I would have given Rohit a chance ahead of him in the Test Series simply because he is lot more comfortable on these tracks against the dilapidated West Indian bowling attack. Badri will have his chances in the near future, but I would rather give Rohit chances ahead of Badri as he would be preferred for the English tour. Let him get a brief idea about Test Cricket, its good for the future
gaurav92 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 if anything ' date=' the only reason Sharma has got so many chances is cos of the State/Team he represents .Am not complaining , cos the kind of player Rohit can be in future he probaably deserved those chances ..but if you think Badri has got into the team cos of favourism , thats just unfortunate[/quote'] I agree. If Rohit had played for Jharkhand or Himachal or any other state other than the main metros of Cricket, I am sure he would have not got as many chances as he has perhaps been given. Yes, Badri deserved his chances, but if I were to pick one between Rohit and Badri, on basis of current form, I would definitely pick Rohit as he has clearly looked more comfortable on these tracks. Badri has struggled so far and it would be a huge gamble if we pick him in the Test side which already is not our full strength side.
saneindian Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 Have they cancelled his return ticket yet? Looking at Raina and Badri during the ODIs, we definitely need Rohit for the tests. Fletcher/MSD need to put their foot down and demand for Rohit in the test squad.
Pagalpanti Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Raina should be sent back home instead. Both Badri and Rohit deserve to be in the squad.
