Freedom Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Raina is joke of a player in bouncy and seaming conditions. It would be a disgrace to have him in the test team ahead of R G Sharma in the test squad. More than anything if BADrinath is preferred ahead of Rohit, that would be real joke. Any chance that an already announced test squad can be changed to bring Rohit in? Will BCCI become un-professional like PCB to accommodate a genuine talunt ?( What is you feeling?
Misu243 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I would give Badrinath one more chance. Rohit Sharma has been absolute class this series..no doubt about that. He has carried his IPL form to his national team..great to see that.
Freedom Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 Misu... Badri's technique is really scratchy. Remember the B'lore test against SA? He just scrapped through every ball as though it was end of day's play. Very Dodgy in my opinion. Doesn't have the confidence to come forward and defend. You gotta be a man in test cricket!
Cricketics Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Let's go easy on Raina. He is a World Champion bat who has failed only in 1 series. and we shouldn't be discussing this now after his failures. Squad was picked before.
Freedom Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 Cricketics, Raina's weakness and opponents exposing the same is not new. My point is RG Sharma is test material and Raina is not. IMO Raina= Samaraveera of India. Can't bat outside of Sub continent on Bouncy Swinging conditions. We all know how ruthlessly he was exposed in SA. Unless he completely figures out how to handle short ball, he cant score more than 20 runs/inning outside subcontinent. Whereas Sharma used to completely lack temperament. He seems to have rectified it a bit.
ensd2 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 overnight we are all Rohit Sharma fans ? No Viru:(( , No Goddy:(( , no Gauthy:(( , No Dravid:(( , No Laxmann :((, No Zaheer:(( no Yuvi so have no choice other than supporting Rohit:((:((:((
ch1234 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I would have Pathan over Raina in tests.. Think, Pathan taking on bowlers ala Gilchrist when the bowlers gets tired of bowling 15-20 overs and YKP smacking them all across the park.. I am sure YKP will play test for India in the future..
Freedom Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 overnight we are all Rohit Sharma fans ? When we don't have our top players....what choice do you have. If this were full strength squad there would be no discussion as both of them would be sitting out with Kohli slotting in for No.6 ahead of both of them We don't have a choice, do we?
Karan114 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Agree with OP. Raina's last eight Test scores have been 5, 1, 3, 20, 0, 3, 32 and 0. WI have some reasonably quick bowlers and that's all any team needs against this guy in Test cricket - he can't play the short ball to save his life.
Dayman Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I would have Pathan over Raina in tests.. ch1234 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 He doesnt have the temperment to play a solid innings in ODIs' date=' no way should he be playing Tests.[/quote'] Actually, the problem is within himself only. He is trying to improve (sort of evolving) his batting by trying to learn to play more many different shots, by trying to improve his technique, by trying to have more shots on same ball etc... The faster he realizes that he should be O.K. with what he has got, he will be back to his best..
Cricket Tragic Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I would have Pathan over Raina in tests.. desi pride 1234 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 raina will do well. rohit should wait for his chances.
mishra Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Agree with OP. Raina's last eight Test scores have been 5' date=' 1, 3, 20, 0, 3, 32 and 0. WI have some reasonably quick bowlers and that's all any team needs against this guy in Test cricket - he can't play the short ball to save his life.[/quote'] To be fair, despite all the Raina successes he has one weakness. He seemed to get clueless when he sees or doesnt see, a ball coming at chest height.... If someone argues, Dada wasnt sure either.. There is a difference ..Dada wasnt sure about few (not all) which followed him to his ribcage.... He was generally good at spotting them early and leaving most of them. Selectors definitely knew Raina weakness, before they selected him But based on odi performance i wouldnt change the team. May be pressure got to him. Also despite Rohit showing a class , We still need Raina to be successfull and must prepare him. He is too good talent to be wasted...
gaurav92 Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Misu... Badri's technique is really scratchy. Remember the B'lore test against SA? He just scrapped through every ball as though it was end of day's play. Very Dodgy in my opinion. Doesn't have the confidence to come forward and defend. You gotta be a man in test cricket! There hasn't been a single Test match in Bangalore that features India and South Africa when Badri is playing, so may be you are watching some different game :D I think you are referring to the Nagpur Test where Steyn was at his absolute best. He along with Morkel demolished our fragile batting line up. I say fragile because we did not have Laxman and Dravid in the side. Even in that game, Badri scored a subdued 56. It was not easy out there, and he did well. I would have Pathan over Raina in tests.. Think' date=' Pathan taking on bowlers ala Gilchrist when the bowlers gets tired of bowling 15-20 overs and YKP smacking them all across the park.. I am sure YKP will play test for India in the future..[/quote'] Yes many a times, have you not seen him pull ? Well then as I said, you are watching a different game altogether :giggle: Gilly wasn't the best pullers/hookers of the game, but he played some pull shots with authority.
Sidhoni Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 IMO Raina= Samaraveera of India
jeeves Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 raina obviously has his problems against the short ball and i have my doubts about sharmas temperament, though he has looked good this series.think badri deserves another chance after all the runs that he has accumulated over the years in the domestic circuit.really unfortunate that pujara has to miss out due to an injury
