Atherton wanted English IPL

If any country that can compete financially with the IPL, it's England, due to population size and advertising revenue. A Big But....... England can never sustain an "IPL" type league, cricket does not capture the UK media or the wider audience's imagination like English Football does.

Its getting increasingly expensive to watch cricket in England, even for T20. Current economic downturn is not helping either - hence crowds are down. There are far too many county teams as well - half of them need to go as are just not viable financially, they rely on subsidies to survive. Plus the weather is crap - its cold and rained most days so far in June. IPL works well in India for various reasons, it can't really be replicated anywhere else.

ironically isn't the English Football clubs in the same position. Some sources quote the total debt English Premier League clubs have raked up runs into billions of pounds!!:headshake:

The thing these guys forget is they can never ever replicate IPL. 2 simple reasons 1. They don't have the kind of money BCCI has. Chalo even if they get the money 2. They can't generate the viewership if there are no Indian players, which I'm sure BCCI wont send. so there you go even if they spend they'll infact incur huge losses Aren't they already suffering huge losses from standford fiasco? :giggle:

not only suffering, but enslaved to TV Broadcasters to play meaningless unofficial T20 international games latter in the year (to fulfill canceled Standford Series T20 matches) and I believe next couple of years too, :hysterical: talk about **** ups. What would be funny is if WICB say f u c k off, we are not going to play any unoffical T20 games, and prompting ECB to pay WICB to send a T20 team to England to fulfll it's TV contract obligations.

Atherton is an @$$ who has always been burning his ass with jealousy and writing and commenting against IPL and how its destroying cricket and blah blah. This only proves that he was just dead jealous and is a definite hypocrite ass.

It's interesting to know that Artherton worries about corruption in IPL while few players have been caught/accused of fixing matched in county cricket. Btw it seems like warnie had a cheap face lift

All the boards should be able to open up whichever leagues they would like. But one thing Im totally against is the players whoring themselves by going around the world playing in all these different types of leagues. Guys like Pollard, Symonds etc are prime examples. They should be only allowed to have one contract at a time per year. The players whoring themselves all over the world is what making it difficult for the boards and bcci.

O maybe you can pay those players the money they lose when they don't ***** themselves to play T20. I mean come on...Pollard is not Test material...he ain't even decent ODI class and now with whatever talent he has he wants to earn a living. And you want him to stop it? Symonds did not fit into the Aussie hypocrisy so he chose out. Now you want him to stop him from making a living because of being honest with himself? Great!

How can a board let a player play in multiple leagues which have conflicts of interest? Almost every team a player like Pollard or Symonds plays for has a conflict of interest in the Champions League. Why should the original team the player represents allow the player to play in another competition that may hinder their success?

Where is the conflict of interest in Pollard's case? Clearly Pollard is no more than a T20 player. There is no point in holding him back from IPL to play one inconsequential T20I. As far as players like Bravo and Gayle are concerned, I agree there is conflict of interest which can be mutually resolved. It's a totally different thing that WICB and WIPA are both unable (or should it be incapable) to resolve it.

That is for the individual and the franchises to decide.

Eng can never have their own version of IPL because of the counties. There was already a study for starting their IPL version like 2-3 years ago...but that plan called for lesser teams or even new franchise teams sold to private companis as in IPL. But the counties blocked that...& preferred their existing T20 league. BTW...that T20 league has gown downhill financially & no longer attracts that many fans

Because the "original" team also ***** themselves. If the other team (usually an IPL team) is willing to pay (compensate) the "original" team for the player's services during champions league, then the "original" are more than happy play hanky panky. If two teams want the same player from the "original" team then the highest payer gets him. The "original" team can always say no. But with money at stake...hmm...greed knows no bound.
