And I dont believe this was gifted by Ferrari without any business motive. I guess this was his compensation instead of cash for being brand ambassador for Fiat India...May be they played the gift episode, just to avoid tax...If that's the case, I dont think it is unethical for Sachin to sell his car.

In this particular case the exemption was granted because the item was a gift, so how is fair to taxpayers that someone sells it off for profit?

All he has done now is converted that item to it's cash value.

Yeah, it wasn't 'fair' in the first place, but I am assuming the government has certain discretionary powers here which they used to exempt the duty because it was a gift given to a figure of national importance for his personal use. Now, the very premise on the basis of which the exemption was granted does not exist if he is selling it for a profit.
