ODI best for India - one of them HAS to be TAV (Tenth Avatar of MahaVishnu) - Sir Aggy Even now, perhaps Aggy can play instead of Sreesanth (for ex.) in ODIs

Yes-but which one is he??

Aggy had a good wickets per game record so i would say that he is the 1st on the list but his economy of 5.07 seems low for sir aggy. The last one now, 229 games 259 wickets is defn bhajji. I dont think anyone else with such a poor average has played 200+ games. I reckon the others are Venky, probably 161 games, Srinath and Zaheer? Did kumble play 229 games?

A - Aggy B- Zaheer C-Sreenath D - Venky E-Harby Interesting to note that Agarkar has the best Average and strike rate and that too by quite a margin over others..Yet hes reviled..Why ? Also note that Zaheer and Aggy have played the same number of matches .Agarkar has taken 15 wkts more, has a better strike rate, better avg and has conceded 150 runs more overall (which is negligible).. So if that makes Zaheer the best bowler, where does that leave Aggy ? :) Guess its all a matter of perception huh..People sometimes prefer flamboyance over understatedness..Personally Aggy is one of my faves..!

In ODIs, Aggy is not that bad at all. He is also a better fielder than some of our current medium and slow-medium "pace" bowlers. Yes, he gives a 4-ball per over (minimum), but its not like our current crop of pacers are very miserly either. In fact, in some matches he did good bowling in slog overs of the ODIs.

Aggy started really well. I think he is one of the fastest to 50 and 100 wickets. He always gave away too many runs and people just game up on him in his later stages. Zaheer's come back has been really good. I think he is much better in 2nd half of his career and that the numbers from his first half bring his stats down.

Even if he did take 50 wkts in 23 matches,he still managed to take 238 wkts in the next 168 matches which are great stats...He definitely is one of the unsung heroes of Indian cricket.

1. Ajit Agarkar (288) 2. Zaheer Khan (273) 3. Javagal Srinath (315) 4. Venkatesh Prasad (196) 5. Harbhajan Singh (259) It was easy :)
Yeps..:)..You win.........nothing sadly

Agarkar is reviled because he was a mental midget. Any time the game was in balance you could count on him to lose the battle and hand the initiative to the opposition. You don't have to look beyond the World Cup to see the contrast with Zaheer. Even though Zaheer's 'stats' are not as good as Agarkar and nor were they anything great heading into the World Cup, every single time the game was in balance and India needed a wicket he struck crucial blows to the opposition. Agarkar would have bottled up 9 times out of 10 - such mentally fragile players can destroy the team.

He was a good wicket taking bowler in ODIs, though yes when the pressure was on he would bowl short and wide too often...did have a fantastic start to his career, in the lateish 90's it was very exciting when he cam on to the scenen, in ODIs i.e, raced to 50 wkts in what still is amongst the least no of matches in ODI history. Pathan started off really well too in that sense

Agarkar has won 53% of his matches played Zaheer has won 10 more and stands at 56% Harby at 55% Kumble at 46% Both Zaheer's and Harby's numbers have come as a result of an overall superior team with much better winning percentages. However Agarkar's average of 22.44 is the best amongst all bowlers in matches won. How is he not a matchwinner then ?

It's probably because Agarkar blew onto the international stage in ODIs with great performances, but never really captured that form, and selectors finally just gave-up on him. Plus he was never really any good at Tests.

Kumble averaged 31 for his total 271 games, and picked up 337 wickets. :hysterical::hysterical: Now go ahead, claim Kumble was our greatest ever spin bowler because he averaged 2.5 less than the worst ever Bhajji :two_thumbs_up:
