Vijay.Sharma Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Why are Jumbo's numbers not included? I think he is our best ODI bowler ever.
The Outsider Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 I respectfully disagree that he was niot a match winner .Again, there are statistics to back that up. Agarkar has won 53% of his matches played Zaheer has won 10 more and stands at 56% Harby at 55% Kumble at 46% Both Zaheer's and Harby's numbers have come as a result of an overall superior team with much better winning percentages. However Agarkar's average of 22.44 is the best amongst all bowlers in matches won. How is he not a matchwinner then ? How does any of the above show he was not a certified choker? So based on statistics and other intangibles,Zaheer is the best ODI bowler. For sheer numbers alone,I'd rate Aggy in the top 5 though. Kapil, Kumble, Zaheer, Srinath, Prabhakar
Yoda-esque Posted June 24, 2011 Author Posted June 24, 2011 How does any of the above show he was not a certified choker? Kapil, Kumble, Zaheer, Srinath, Prabhakar Two reasons : 1)Thats because his performance in matches won is better than any other bowler. He has the best strike rate of all Indian bowlers. 2) His performances against Australia which was by far the most dominant team are very good. I'd take him over Prabhakar tbh... Aggy was good in his opening spells usually got a wicket and excellent in the death. Not to mention that he could touch late 130s and ealy 140s with his minimalistic frame.

Since you seem to be very fond of stats, here is one which puts into numbers Agarkar's extraordinary choking skills : http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/26184.html?class=2;filter=advanced;final_type=1;orderby=start;template=results;type=bowling;view=innings

The same as taking Tendulkar's runs in the finals. BTW, before anyone starts beating up on me for that last comment,I am a big big fan of Goddy!
The Outsider Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 Selective data..Most of the other bowlers stats in the same matches arent great either. The same as taking Tendulkar's runs in the finals. What's wrong with Tendulkar's runs in the finals : http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/35320.html?class=2;filter=advanced;final_type=1;orderby=start;template=results;type=batting;view=innings Anyhow, I am done here - even after showing you Agarkar's choking in preferred numbers you want to hang on to the conception of him being some matchwinner, please go ahead.

Ok check this out then..This isnt an argument BTW http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/30102.html?class=2;filter=advanced;final_type=1;orderby=default;template=results;type=bowling Thats Zaheer Khan in finals 14 wkts in 15 matches V/s 16 wkts in 16 matches..Not much difference is there ? The point of this thread was to identify the best ODI bowlers , not tuen this into an Agarkar Vs Zaheer debate.

Sir Ji 10 4 wicket hauls and 2 5 wicket hauls, more than anyone else in Indian bowlers. He may have choked in some matches but he still is one of the top 5 ODI bowlers in India
