I disagree as I was able to measure speeds reasonably accurately by similarly recording todays match using the same camcorder and cross verify with the speed shown on the telecast. If anything my method over-estimates the speed by about 3-5 MPH because the point of release by the bowler and the point of impact at the batsmans end are not always 17.68 mtrs apart. Usually it is lesser than that.
Yeah, okay..Lindwall used to bowl at 50 mph....khush? Ab so jaao aaram se.

Facts? I just showed you how jhandu your original video frame rate is - now if you want to believe that you can improve the frame rate be recording it on a camcorder, you rock! B->

BB. You are stretching this one a bit too far. Few things. a) That old video has very poor frame rate. Lets say about 25 or so. In that case, you get time intervals at increment of about .04 seconds. So there is a chance of total error of about .08 seconds (measured at release and then at strike). For a ball that can be delivered, on an average, in .5 seconds(~128kmph) - it would mean about 16%error possible. Not to mention other errors of measurement (resolution, noise etc). b) NO - it is not possible to improve the frame rate of video recorded at poor frame rate - by re-cam-cording it. This analogy should help - take a low-resolution picture, re-capture it with 100 megapixel camera. You wont be able to enhance the original picture's contents by zooming-in in the 100mp re-capture. One can do interpolation. But that requires finding 'curve fitting' parameters. Which is not trivial at all - you will need a lot of training data (of cricket videos at various frame rates - ideally for similar bowling action and camera angle and resolution and....)

And the results are exactly the same. He is the same speed as Sammy with the accuracy of a Sami . Many thanks for finding that Akshay :hail: I looked at all sorts of freeware ... to try and get it to download ... :blush:
You're welcome. always happy to help. However, I believe this speed/video comparison is not a very useful argument. (in fact most of the cross-era skill comparison are not). Anyway, I will go back to my corner seat - you can continue that with Outsider and Co.

Is the fast bowler that you see at about 00:30 seconds in that clip bowling at about 90 MPH ? ( you will have to maximize the video to see the time counter ) . He is the one that is bowling from the bottom of your screen. There is many more instances of that bowler in action in that clip. Just see the clip and tell us if you think in your opinion he is bowling anywhere close to 90MPH. Yes this guy looks quick. This is Lindwall, not express, but certainly over 85 mph.

So let's see what have we got here in favor of Lindwall bowling fast (~90 mph) : 1. Each and every observer labeling him as a genuine quick. 2. Each and every batsman who faced him labeling him as a genuine quick. 3. Sobers' testimony that he was as quick as Lillee having faced both (hope you agree that Lillee was a genuine quick).
This. From my short stint in ICF, I can say that this must be accidentally overlooked.
