rahulrulezz Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Whatever it is, we Indians come across as the biggest hypocrites in this scenario.... We are the only one to oppose to UDRS but also the first one to blame umpires... and its amazing how u guys blindly support our board and players .. from an outisider point of view, we are prolly Amrish puri of cricket
putrevus Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Guys like Tony Greig and host of others who say tough luck India , it is your own fault you are not using UDRS, but they tend to forget what happens after team uses its reviews, it is still dependent on incompetent fools like Harper rest of the way. ICC instead of this mumbo jumbo about DRS need to get more competent umpires into the game, fools like Bucknor, and Harper have been sheltered for too long by ICC. This shameless fool is talking about 94% being correct but he is forgetting the after effect of those decisions, Raina got out to a stinker by Rauf but it led to total collapse of Indian batting.Umpire is responsible for that collapse if he had not given that decision who knows how match would have turned out Raina and Laxman both could have got 100s and today West Indies would be praying for rain to save this game . Umpires are also human and errors can occur but this total lack of remorse on Harper's part is very annoying. In contrast Umpire Taufel who said he was sorry for giving Sachin out in England last tour and there no wonder he is regarded as one of best umpires.

It is entirely my fault that the BCCI opposes the review system. I feel so guilty for letting everyone down :((
Vijay.Sharma Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Harper is one of the FTBU umpires i have seen around the world.what is FTBU?
Cricket_Fan Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Indians eating beef burgers? :hmmm: Interesting comparison there. I think Harper should visit Kerala to see Indians eating beef from morning to evening :)
21cent Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 LOL. Every umpire who makes a mistake against India must be fired. Soon there wont be any umpires left to officaite matches, BCCI will have to agree to UDRS then.:haha:
Ultimate_Game Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 LOL. Every umpire who makes a mistake against India must be fired. Soon there wont be any umpires left to officaite matches' date= BCCI will have to agree to UDRS then.:haha: 1. It's not "mistakes" but consistency. If you make 6 bad decisions and all of them are against a particular team, I am sure these questions are bound to come up. As for mistakes by umpires against Indians I don't see Dharamsena retired yet. 2. DRS has been made mandatory.
akshayxyz Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 What has UDRS got to do with it? UDRS allows challenging only 2 decisions per innings per side. This guy made about 6-7 wrong decisions. With UDRS in place - it does not mean umpires are allowed to make more mistakes. UDRS or not, umpires job is to give his best, seek help of 3rd umpire/refree when in doubt. UDRS is not to aide umpires, it is to give players one last chance - for the cases when on-field umpires+3rd umpires collectively with all the technology at their disposal - still make a wrong call.
triam Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 How is this 94% arrived at? does it take into consideration all the balls he umpires? for example first ball of the game - not declared a no ball (ball was legal), no wicket, no wide, no runs (after the first ball the umpire is at 100% success rate) second ball of the game - not declared a no ball (ball was legal), no wicket, no wide, no runs (after the second ball the umpire is at 100% success rate. If that is the case no umpire would ever be below 90 % :)
Blue-no1 Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I work in a medicine making company. If I have a 6% failure rate, I would be fired by the end of the business day. Dear Mr Harper, Do you want to take the 6% failed drug or better be in the 6% in a failed surgery of a surgeon who boasts a 94% success rate. Mr. Harper, You are fired. :two_thumbs_up:

Blue-no1 Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Not a good analogy. Perspective' date=' my dear, perspective.[/quote'] Why? Only people belonging to certain professions are supposed to be experts. People having other professions do not have that responsibility? They can make any mistakes. How about an engineer designing a bridge, road etc. It is OK to have 6% or more failure rate?
Ultimate_Game Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Amazing thing is that it's ok for umpires to give wrong decisions and be incompetent as long as DRS is around. These are two separate issues and usage of DRS should have no bearing on competency of umpires and level of umpiring. So let's say DRS is in place and an incompetent umpire keeps on giving wrong decisions against Team A. In that case Team A will be handicapped as in most cases the decisions will stay in favor of the team who gets the original decision. E.g., for a ball clipping leg the on-field decision will stay and the team against whom the decision goes will be penalized. Thus, consistency in umpiring is still required and this is where Harper failed. Harper gave 6 wrong decisions and all of them against india. So even if DRS had been there at least3-4 decisions would still have gone against India.
Serani Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Harper clearly has something against all asian players. He acts like a condescending, patronizing pr1ck towards them and it's no surprise a lot of his decisions are unfairly against them. Good riddance to this scumbag. Not sure if serious? If srs
jonas10 Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 I wonder what would happen if an indian umpire said the following: "There was one LBW against Brett Lee that would have been reversed had Decision Review System been available. I also failed to detect a no ball when Indian Zaheer Kahn back foot touched the side or return crease. It's about as common as an Australian thats not an alcoholic."
jonas10 Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 I love how Bucknor Harper and all these umpires at the end of the day say .... "I got 94% correct"....Um well anyone in this forum that has watched test matches could get 95% of the 94% you got correct correct as well. It's the 6% which these guys are missing that is hard to umpire. If you are only getting 50% of that 6% right thats a clear signal that you suck as an umpire. I dont expect everyone to be Aleem Dar but my god im glad it wasn't Sydney revisited. Now excuse me while i go chow down on some beef burgers.
jonas10 Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 This is surprising from Harper. He generally seems so cordial on the field, and is supposedly fluent in Hindi too. He must have taken the elite panel layoff quite hard. It was such an innocuous remark from Dhoni. These goras are being driven crazy now that brown skinneds are calling the shots. They all had no problem when the shoe was on the other foot.
rahulrulezz Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Woww.. now we guys are playing the victim and the race card... o common!!

But there are places/industries where less than 6% would be considered unachievable with today's technology.
