Emerging Players tournament, 2011

Why can only experience make you accurate. Is it beyond a young bowler to be accurate?
Not just accuracy, bowlers need other aspects covered as well like the Height of McGrath 6'5" that gave him an extra bounce on most of the surfaces, then accuracy comes handy. Munaf tries to emulate McGrath but does not have that kind of bounce and perfect seam position which McGrath had.

Disappointing stuff from India Emerging Players as could only take 3 wickets before a declaration came. One wicket for each of the three pace bowlers. The batting performance was far more heartening as they ended on 278/6 off 55.1 overs chasing 282, seeming to fall just four runs short as time ran out. Rahane the star with 109 off 122 balls, the guy is a run machine to another level!

Indeed. Someone who bowls deadly accurate at 125-132kph (the pace in the over) but does not move the ball will not get wickets. However' date=' all I am saying is that great Test success is possible at a pace of under 135kph. Therefore, people who bowl under 135kph should not be discounted purely on the basis of a lack of speed.[/quote'] but dont forget the bowler who does not have pace mostly posses other aspects of fast bowling. Fast bowling not just about pace. If a bowler can seam and swing at 135 or less accurately he will be good. Like if PK could have increased his pace 130 odd he could be a real asset. Other than extra bounce is another aspect which tall bowlers can get which is more dangerous than extra pace. If a bowler is not quick if he has pace around 130, swing and seam and accuracy or he must be a tall bowler if he does not swing much like Stuart Clark.

I dont understand why only 1 ball was bowled in the 55th over when only 4 runs were needed for victory. It doesnt sound like a fair result to me. Indian emerging team deserved to win. :hmmm:
yeah..don't know what happened there. They must have completed the overs. Looks like friendly matches are being played.

Did it rain? Why did they bowl only 1 ball in the 56th over with 4 runs to win?
Day 3 Well, I have to ask the same question. Why was the 56th over not completed? India needed just 4 runs to win, Rayudu was going great guns having scored 51 runs in 45 balls. At the other end Abdullah was also going at run a ball pace. So what happened? CA site reports: Ajinkya Rahane's 109, made in partnership with four other batsman, helped India successfully chase down the target of 271. Ambati Rayudu contributed an unbeaten 51 after Rahane fell to Ethan O'Reilly (4-67). Is anyone in Indian media concerned about covering this important tournament or will they concentrate only on IPL?

No!In the report it is given Rahane scored a match winning century..
India Emerging Players had to settle for a draw against South Africa Emerging Players due to bad light ending play at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane when they were four runs away from victory with four wickets in hand. It was an anti-climactic end to a spirited chase as Ajinkya Rahane's 109 off 122 balls and Ambati Rayudu's unbeaten half-century led them to 278 for 6 in 55.1 overs, at which point the umpires decided light was too poor to carry on. Neither team was awarded points after the stalemate, though South Africa copped a penalty of five points for a poor over-rate that left them five overs short of the target, potentially costing India the game http://www.espncricinfo.com/emerging-players-tournament-2011/content/story/525840.html

Anyway, as some of you have even posted, I'll post the entire report of 3rd day from cricinfo: Rahane hits century in tense draw ESPNcricinfo staff August 3, 2011 India Emerging Players had to settle for a draw against South Africa Emerging Players due to bad light ending play at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane when they were four runs away from victory with four wickets in hand. It was an anti-climactic end to a spirited chase as Ajinkya Rahane's 109 off 122 balls and Ambati Rayudu's unbeaten half-century led them to 278 for 6 in 55.1 overs, at which point the umpires decided light was too poor to carry on. Neither team was awarded points after the stalemate, though South Africa copped a penalty of five points for a poor over-rate that left them five overs short of the target, potentially costing India the game. That India had a shot at victory was down to a sporting declaration from the South Africans earlier in the day. Resuming at their overnight score of 122 for 1, South Africa piled on the runs thanks to opener Reeza Hendricks and captain Stiaan van Zyl, both of whom made tons. van Zyl was the more adventurous, making his runs at a strike-rate of 78.52. Hendricks remained unbeaten on 125 when the declaration came at 291 for 3, setting India 282 to win. Opener S Anirudha failed for the second time in the match, but captain Shikhar Dhawan stroked a quick 36 to launch the chase. The Tiwarys, Manoj and Saurabh, then supported Rahane as India made steady progress, before Rayudu opened up. Rahane and CM Gautam were dismissed off successive balls, but Iqbal Abdulla, in Rayudu's company, ensured the chase remained on track, before light faded. POINTS TABLE India and AIS have zero points while NZ and SA are in negatives. ------------------------- As expected, Cheeka jnr was a failure, Rahane made up for 1st inning failure with a ton in the second inning but Tiwaries could not rake up good scores in either innings, Rayudu did well in 2nd inning. Bowlers were disappointing. We do not know anything about fielding, nor do we know much about SA's bowling and batting standards. If only there was more coverage for tournament!

How different is this Saffie side from its A team? Im not very sure about the players on other teams but I get the impression our guys, some of whom have international experience, are hammering around a bunch of kids. Not so much SA side but the AIS team especially is very young. Makes you take some of the performances with a pinch of salt.
