True. the opening line in the OP makes that clear but i skimmed a lot think everything is TBD.

Haroon Lorgat, the ICC chief executive, has suggested that the final of the inaugural World Test Championship, which will be held in England in 2013, could be a 'timeless' Test.

Instead of a timeless final, they should have a 3 match series between the finalists. If the series is 1-1 or 0-0 after the 3 match series, the series can be extended and sudden death matches should be played where the first team to win a game in the extented series should be crowned the champion.

Like recently teams who score quicker to force result will not mind to bat out as much as they can 4. Final will become a farce if it takes more than 6-7 days. At most they should do is that if rain affects most part of test matches they can add a 6th day.

I don't think ICC is thinking about making all tests timeless but only the ones in test championship .... let's look at your points: 1. In test championship a winner will be decided either by a win (obviously) or points based on one of the following: (a)first innings lead (b) most runs scored. © ? Teams don't necessarily have to win on the field to advance. Only in scenario (a) a captain would want to make a sporting declaration if his team batted first, the other team got the lead and then only way to come back is to make a sporting declaration to win the game. But if the other team has the first innings lead, it won't be that tempted to go for a win (which it will in any case on points if the game ends in a draw on field) and in the process give the other team a chance to come back in a game which is already in its hand 2. That can happen even in scenarios discussed in point 1 3. Which means picking up wkts, setting attacking fields, etc (the essence of test cricket) would be required making test cricket more interesting .... And to get points, the teams would want to do that too 4. Or stuff of legends. If two teams fight it out for over 7 days, it is more likely that there would have been a few brilliant performances It appears as if some of you are judging things as if it is timeless vs time and no other criteria (like winner decided on points) would be there in the test championship

Sab bakvaas hai. If ICC does that. Phaast bowlers will retire early. Spinners will retire early. Every batsman would like to keep himself fit and available for T20. Hence retire early, unless he is hopeless for ODI's and T20. If second strig sides play the game then crowd will reduce further All these thought of pure cricket and exciting trsts is bonkers. Its over a century now and test cricket is still not popular. Before someone jumps telling me about crowd in India England test series... Few points ... 1. I am going to watch the test because of Tendulkar. 2. I am going to see the victors of ICC world cup champs. 3. I am definitely not going because india are ranked number 1 in tests.

confess, haven't read the article. Though the idea is well meant it is unlikely to be entertained by TV broadcasters, and I don't think a Test going on for 10 days will receive positive awareness publicity.
