The Outsider Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Tendulkar, Laxman, and Dravid retire and stop giving him the cushion of beating up tired attacks on 350/5? Let's see how many have faith in Dhoni's mystical batting abilities and I am going to laugh out loud at those who say yes a few years later.
Ultimate_Game Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Sure he will. He will end his career as one of the better wk-batsmen to have played the game.
Serani Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Sure he will. He will end his career as one of the better wk-batsmen to have played the game. Seems you have downgraded your expectations from "as good as Gilchrist" (or something like that) Have you lost confidence in the great Dhoni.
Pagalpanti Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Dhoni is more successful in top order, if he bats in 4th or 5th position he'll have a much better avg, I hope he does come up when the trio retires. I think he'll end up with 45+ in both ODI's and tests, just going through a lean patch.
Yoda-esque Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I , as an ordinary,average,hero-worshipping Indian.. would love to be laughed at..:winky:
surajmal Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Seems you have downgraded your expectations from "as good as Gilchrist" (or something like that) Have you lost confidence in the great Dhoni. cricket isn't just about test matches. Dhoni is already the best one day wicketkeeper/batsmen to ever set foot on the field. But you are an english supporter so I don't expect you to know the value of that.
Sid Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I wiil refrain from watching Dhoni billboards from now on,it can affect certain part of your nervous system quite badly :((

Maybe you need to check that thread again... I said that if Dhoni continues similarly for the next few years and ends up with an average of 40 or so with 6000 runs and India continues to be one of the top teams under Dhoni's captaincy, I would prefer to pick Dhoni in the AT XI team based on what Dhoni brings to the table as a wk, batsman and a captain. This thread is only talking about wk-batsman and captaincy is not part of the discussion so he will not be ahead of Gilchrist. Do check out that thread again.

Michael Bevan is not remembered as a great player, he was an ATG ODI player and a poor test player so gets no respect, and thats the way it should be. Also Dhoni's ODI prowess just confirms his status as king FTB.
Kumar Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Possibly, if he moves up and improves his technique then i see no reason not to! though pressure from captianicy, and majority of his career dominated by short-version games do play a part in it as well! ive always loved to see MSD promote himself to a 3 or 4 in test cricket, who knows it may happen...

Guest Gunner Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Next thing I know Dhoni will be hailed as the best Indian wicketkeeper ever in test matches. Move aside Engineer, Kirmani and More. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

Move aside Engineer' date=' Kirmani and More. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:[/quote'] Well as of now he is the best test wk if you want to select India's AT XI team. Engineer would be his backup solely for the reason I would have Dhoni as the captain. If some other player's made the captain then Engineer may get into the team.
