wobblydoggy Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 These conditions were not for 474 in first innings which England scored because of lack of bowling options. When a bowler like Dhoni has to bowl, you can understand how short of options the captain was. It was not Zak, if we had Sreeshanth or Munaf instead of Zak, we could do better. AT least, they would have bowled their overs and we do not resort to Dhoni or Raina so much. and BTW, 2 bowlers cannot take 20 wickets in a test. You need all bowler contributing. Batting did not perform up to potential, but conditions were bowling friendly, ball moved of the pitch and in the air whole match. It was our bowling which could not stop England scoring 474 and absence of zaheer of a 4th bowler had a bog hand in this. Same with second innings, at 72/5, if we had 4th bowler or 3rd seamer, story of the match could have been different. Same in the first innings, If Zak was there, England would not have scored 474, just not Zak, if we had any 3rd seamer like Sreeshanth of Munaf, we could have stopped England scoring 474. This was actually not more than 300-350 runs conditions if bowlers bowl well in the right areas because ball was seaming and swinging. Ishant was off color in first innings. It can happen one of the bowler can be off color and if other gets injured, it becomes a problem. Same thing was with England, Anderson was off color in first innings, but they had fit Tremlett and Broad their, who did their job, We only had PK in first innings who did whatever he could do on his own and bowled 60 overs in the test which is not a joke. On 4th day. we were virtually playing with 8 players with SRT struggling with fever and Gambhir injured and Zak was already out. Yep all true, but caused by poor selection and inadequate preparation. These tests are back to back and so a fit side will do far better. You need to change at least 3 players for the next test in my opinion

I wonder what you'd have to say about our upcoming matches in that case. The other pitches are renowned for being far more bowler-friendly than Lord's, so are you going to discount poor batting performances then too? I know we were literally playing with a bunch of wounded soldiers, but what about the guys who were fit enough to last for a while? As for the 'lack of seamers' argument- I'm not debating that either, and I figure it's more for less Dhoni's hugeass fault for refusing to bring in another bowler into the picture. Even with that shortcoming though, we could have still hoped for a draw or thereabouts if our 'main spinner' Dartbhajan had stepped up. Of course, he didn't, in spite of his experience. We keep talking about Dravid and Laxman being experienced enough to see us through on a tough day, but I don't understand why the same onus can't be placed on our bowlers. Ishant and PK did tremendously well despite being relative newbies, and what did Darty do? Nothing. Even Graeme Swann went for runs and picked up only one wicket last night, but just look at the way he bowled, and his body language. Check out the field placements for him. Dhoni on the other hand insists on using a defensive field for Darty, which is extremely telling of his own lack of faith in Harbhajan. And he STILL refuses to sit out Harbhajan for a match at the cost of our team's performance and confidence. So really, we can't keep making excuses and justifications by citing Zak's absence for our loss- because let's face it, it wasn't. Zaheer's absence is an obvious chink in our armour, but it's not the be all and end all of our team, and certainly not enough to pose as an excuse for our inability to stick it through. No one's talking about scoring a mammoth 400 odd on the last day here; it's about staying at the crease, which our guys simply weren't able to do. We've always been a batting team rather than having a strong bowling unit, and in a weird way, Zaheer's absence actually brought out the best in our bowlers for a while. The team just had no faith in itself. England were the polar opposite when it came to exuding positivity on the field.

You are talking like we haven't won or played well in bowling friendly conditions before South African pitches were more bowling friendly which had awkward bounce. We always come back to do well. It was just a kind of a game where everything went wrong for the team. This is the same team which has done well in every series in last three years, same batsmen, same bowlers. This team is not perfect, but they know how to fight and come back from behind. This has been the strength of this team. You are talking about faith. When a team plays with 8 players instead of 11, it happens. Everyone feels something is wrong.
asterix Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 They deserve all the thrashing coming up their way..They can't blame it on others as it's their own making..
jaggadaku Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 They deserve all the thrashing coming up their way..They can't blame it on others as it's their own making.. Exactly, India were outplayed in all three departments
King Tendulkar Posted July 26, 2011 Author Posted July 26, 2011 Also. Gambhir got injured and had to bat 4. Dravid had to open, laxy had to bat 3 and Sachin 5. The whole batting line up got mashed up. The whole test was a nightmare through injuries and illness. What could go wrong , did go wrong. We are a great team and will prove it.
Fontaine Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Anderson, Tremlett, Broad, Bresnan have ALL been injured and missed playing time over the past year. I guess they must be unfit too. World class sprinters most commonly get hamstring injuries, I guess they must be unfit too. This is nothing new. The few times India loses all the wrist slitters come crawling out mumbling and complaining. England played well and deserved to win, but then again with India down to 10 men and Gambhir injured, SRT playing with a fever England SHOULD have won in their own back yard.
wobblydoggy Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Are who are they.Sachin' date='VVS,Dravid?[/quote'] Nope, I would change Harby, Khan and the new young opener. (Sorry forgotten his name)

Zero_Unit Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 You need to calm down. I REPEAT you need to calm down :P
Blue Panther Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Msd is last person to give excuses. He accepts the defeat with grace. I remember dhoni accepted his mistake not to play ashwin in the wc semifinal against pakis and he accepted that he misread the pitch. So i dont think dhoni would give excuse unless he feels it is geniune one.
Cricket Tragic Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Wtf is wrong with Tony Greig? Is his Twitter account for real? Every tweet of his something against India. :WTF:
ganeshran Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Not sure if the account is genuine. Might be a Pakistani impersonating greig
Sachinism Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 It is really him. Fk them, when you're on top you're gonna be hated, its just normal. Yeh you can be the really nice guy, but who wants that, people in BCCI are p$$ed about the way India was treated when Eng/Aus had the power, also how they abused it, now its our turn. Either do something about it or put up. All the other boards have the power to get together and step up to the BCCI, at the end of the day India needs to play someone for this money to continue rolling in. None of the other boards have spines and all their fans have no spines to do anything about the situation, so they pick the easy option and b!tch about BCCI
deepak_sach Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 No.It is real.If not they wont be posting on cricinfo.
IKnowU Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Come on dust it off and keep going. We prob hated Australia wayyyyy more when they were on top. Its just part of the game.
deepak_sach Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Tony greig always supports underdogs. So he supported england. PS:-He loves Sri Lanka.
Cricket Tragic Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I've got no issues with him or anyone else being critical of the BCCI or the team but to constantly post the same crap and to spend all his time linking followers to anti-India articles is pathetic. What a sad man. Also, posting rubbish like Dhoni won't get banned because the BCCI will make a deal with the ICC is ridiculous and irresponsible. You can't go around making statements like that.
