Time to build a new team

^ Okay.. Maybe knee jerk reaction. But what essentially I'm trying to say is that for Bujurg(oldies), it's time now to slowly phase them out.. For middle level seniors like Sehwag, Gauti etc, they've too much attitude and which sometimes affect the team.. So a kick in their backsides in one or two series is in the order.. The likes of Kohli,Rohit have unquestionable talent but they fall in the league of Yuvraj Singh as of now as players with immense talent but not enough temperament to be succesful at the test level.Test match temperament is altogether a different monster and that is exactly why someone like Yuvraj has never made it despite having immense talent. the last 2 youngsters who showed signs of test match temperament are Ishant and someone like Dinesh Kartick, who has already been dumped but we need to find players with temperament to replace the seniors and not just talent.Till we find players like that we are fortunately or unfortunately stuck with are aging legends.

Gunner are you proposing making all the three seniors in the team retire at once?
Give them till next July to retire, one after the other.

you can't help....also so far we are listening from these guys that they are enjoying the game... after this series I think they will reconsider those thoughts... even ZAK and SehwG may go in 1/2 years time who knows...too much cricket these guy can't handle... IPL they can't leave for obvious reasons...Tests they can't leave in fear of Us...

Most of the idiots on the forum don't have the IQ to understand that.
Can you atlest name 5 youngsters(batting or bowling) who you think that have the temperament to survive test match cricket? I am interested to see what you come up with

I don't get why we need to phase out our seniors who were in peak form just maybe 8-10 months back after 1 bad series? How can we judge they are overhill after 1 bad series and on what basis are we coming to that conclusion that in 1 year we need to dump them

Give them till next July to retire' date=' one after the other.[/quote'] That is way too soon. We will fall down so soon in our performance that it will take 2-3 years and heaps of luck to return to respectable levels. 2-3 years is a decent time frame for the big three to leave and with sufficient time between retirements to help build the team. In the meanwhile, youngsters should be given opportunities in the lower profile series and see how they perform. A new team has to be built around the big 3 not by replacing them because of one bad series.

I'll inform this to Srini when I meet him next time.:--D On a serious note, I see no reason why seniors should be kicked out if they are performing well. Lets stop looking at their birthdays and make them scapegoat for our failures.. I am absolutely sure they'll leave when their time is up, it is not as if they are blocking some promising youngster out there. For ex: Gangu retired when he failed one or two series consecutively so as Kumble...These guys will follow the suit.

Pl don't compare us to one of the, if not THE, most dominant teams of all time. We might be declining similar to Australia from their peak, but their peak is much much higher than ours.

Good luck. I am out of here. I don't want to comment anymore about India. I am bound to get angry and say something unwise.

actually this 3 years should have started 2 years back...they are what 38 and 37 now...do you want them to push towards 40? also there are only 3 good TEST teams in the world now..India SA and Eng....so they played against both of the good teams..so I don't think anything left.. ****I know OZ series left but it won't be a great thing even if we beat them this time as its a pale shadow of old teams..so same satisfaction won't be there for Rahul,Sachin and Laxman..

I think many members have mentioned this and I agree with this plan: 1. First to go VVS (I think he will retire after the Australian series) 2. Next Dravid could go (although I wish he retires last of the fab 3 because I've an inkling that Sachin will retire the moment he thinks that there's no more records to make).. 3. Sachin, but I hope he goes before Dravid. Mind you, all these will start after the Australian series.. The selection criteria of the new players (based on their domestic performances and if possible India 'A' performances) should be discipline and attitude to take their cricket seriously (taking their net practices & tour matches seriously, fitness freaks).. Fitness is very important now..Can't have sloths getting into the team ranks, no matter how much talented they are.. Tailend batting has to be improved..CAn't have tail starting from 5 down.. Completely new set of pace and slow bowlers.. IPL is scewing up the new talents..Don't know how to counter that..

Tough times ahead, Ganguly's replacement Raina - 25 innings, 710 @ 30, 382 runs in boundaries, only 328 runs in 1s/2s/3s that is scary 14 runs/innings, how you expect such players to play with tailenders. Pujara is very promising cricketer.

Brah.. It's not just batting.. You have to see the overall fitness and fielding of the team.. Even the middle level seniors fitness and athletesism is questionable..

it will take some years of pain after 3 greats retired... even SA will face problem once Kallis gone...even if Amla,AB and Steyn is there...Kallis is their main player... OZ already gone and I don't think they won't be dominating force in near future... only England looks good at the moment..but you can't tell when they start falling off.. so I guess we will be in top 3/4 even if greats retired early IPL you can't touch..it's a business lot of people lives depending on it..

VVS was just one of our best performers against WI why does he need to retire after 1 bad series in which most of our batting failed and he at times got starts. He was playing in the no3 position which he wasn't playing a lot in recent times. I agree Dravid shouldn't retire yet but wasn't he being criticised just 6 months back? I would say induct 1-2 players at a time...Rainas' spot is vacant and we have lots of openings in the bowling department, with Gambhir and Sehwag being so fragile recently we will have a lot of opening slots too, there will be plently of oppurtunities to try youngsters,so we don't need to get rid of our major players for that

I was skeptic about Abhinav Mukund.. But it was a bad move to induct an attitude full Sehwag in his place..Mukund would've done much well and learned a lot in this series..I hope he stays in the team in future tours and not dumped...
