asterix Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Pardon me for staring a new topic. I'm extremely dissappointed by the Indian bowling in this series. We have to look for talented and hard working bowlers. We also need to sort out the tailend batting. So ideally young bowlers who can not only bowl well but can bat a bit too. Not happy with Mishra and his No-Balls. He should be ashamed of his bowling. Spinner bowling so many no-balls is simply not on. In the near future we will have to replace the great 3 batsmen by young players. During this transition, we cannot have pathetic bowlers like Ishu & Santh. These guys have been found out. The way these 2 bowled, wayward most of the time, with out any strategy and purpose, I think some young emerging bowlers could've bowled better than these two punters.. PS: This is no knee jerk reaction. I've seen their bowling and to be honest, I'll not be convinced by any arguments like,"they had a bad series.." etc.
BoomBoomAfridi Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 I think we need someone phasstt. No shizzle sherlock :haha:
Bumper Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Bowlers hunt in pairs. Even one or two leaky buckets can undo all the pressure that is mounted by a good bowler at one end. I don't think any of the English bowlers are more skilled than Zaheer (Anderson might come close), but they all look a class apart (in spite of bowling to a more experienced middle order) because bowl well together. Indian test future looks bleak. Bowling is just one of the many problems...
asterix Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 Lol@removing Ishant If he cannot be removed then he needs a leader because he cannot lead the Indian attack, that's for sure. He doesn't has the capabilities to lead the Indian attack. Not sure about Zaks future.. Can't have PK leading the Indian bowling attack..Yes, he gives his best and takes wickets too but he doesn't creates fear in the minds of the opposition batsmen..

Indian test future looks bleak. Bowling is just one of the many problems... Yeah, Gambhir was saying in the press conference yesterday how they bowl in a pack - the pressure is not let up at any stage. Constantly homing in on off-stump over after over, spell after spell, with some careful use of the short ball. Helps that they all have decent pace too. Apart from Praveen, our bowlers are incapable of bowling the same line often enough to create pressure. A few good balls, even a couple of overs, and then a short and wide one, or a ball down the leg side follows. Against a powerful, long batting line-up like England's, that simply is not good enough.
Malcolm Merlyn Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Well our batting may have flopped in this series but we dont need wholesale changes.......yes Raina needs to be kicked and may be Kohli,Rahane,Rohit or Pujara or some one else needs to be given a chance...even try Manoj Tiwary......none of them can do worse than Raina. In bowling we need big changes........need to find a good spinner ASAP.....may be Ojha....but on these pitches in England i doubt anyone would have done great. IShant is very inconsistent....one good series and he flattens out....not dependable... Sreesanth needs to be kept away permanently....enough chances havent done much.....consistently. PK.....need to keep him in the team for long term.....will be good support for Zaheer. Zaheer:Inury prone yes........but he is still our top dog.....can play atleast another 2 years....but need to keep him away from unecessary matches.... Give chance to new young fast bowlers,Be it Yadav,Aaron,Chahar or even Dinda...Cant do any worse than what our bowlers are already doing..........No Vinay Kumar...the guys 28 with no future. Ashwin needs to be groomed for a test Debut......
Karan114 Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 yes........but he is still our top dog.....can play atleast another 2 years....but need to keep him away from unecessary matches.... Agree with most of your post but not this. I don't think Zak will play more than 2-3 Test matches in the rest of his career, probably none. Its over for him.
Iconoclast Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 If you don't have wicket taking bowlers you should at least have bowlers that restrict runs. Playing Sharma and Sree together is a big no no. Any pressure that was created by Kumar or your spinner was instantly released by these two bozos.
saneindian Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 We will see PK, RPS, Munaf and Ojha play the next day on a flatter deck at Oval. Or perhaps even PK may get a rest looking at how he was clutching his ankle in his last spell and Mishra retain his spot for the next test. Let's see how that bowling line up performs. Also in batting, Sehwag may have to be moved to a middle order spot and if that means having Mukund in place of Raina, so be it. Though that would mean sacrificing our most athletic fielder but worth taking a punt. Gauti, Mukund, Dravid, Sach, Sehwag, VVS, MSD, Mishra/PK, RPS, Munaf, Ojha A very different bowling line up and a different batting order.
Trichromatic Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 I don't know what's the exact condition of our domestic cricket. So, I can only speculate from what I have noticed. First concentrate on your strength. For ages India's strength has been spin bowling. Earlier there was a time when we used to have 3-4 spinners in the team and they used to bowl in tandem. Even in away matches, I used to field with 3 spinners. As a unit they were a good. In NZ series, Prasanna, Nadkarni and Bedi spun the bowl even on green seaming track. Those were perfect conditions for fast bowlers. India despite lack of quality pacers, did well as bowling unit because of their spin attack. Later as the team improved and become more like invincible at home, duo of Kumble and Bhajji played a big role. Often we used to field with 3 pacers and one spinner used to sit out despite bowling well. There was good competition. As the time changed, Kumble retired and India started played more on flat tracks. Bhajji's form gone down and unhelpful conditions even at home didn't produce case of other spinners. From here, I don't know what has happened to our domestic cricket. How it has stopped producing quality spinners. If Amit Mishra is our best spinner, then I feel sorry for this team. We are weak even at our traditionally strong aspect. India needs to give opportunity to more spinners and produce an environment of competition for them. Bhajji has been carried for too long without performance. For grooming, it's necessary that Indian produces turning pitches at home for test matches and gives 3-4 spinners chances consistently. No one should take his place for granted. Pace attack is absolutely pathetic. Kumar is only decent bowler, but he shouldn't be leader of attack of the team. He is more like a support bowler. India needs a leader of attack. One bowler who can bowl fast, run through the tail even on unhelpful conditions and has the ability to produce wickets. Ishant Sharma is young and he can become 2nd support bowler in few years. He needs to learn a lot. I won't mind if he goes to play some county cricket or focus on test cricket. It's important that pacers are groomed for test cricket. Team should take care of pacers. There should be some plan about how they play. Stop them from playing all types of cricket. Long IPL, useless ODIs etc. They should play more FC cricket and test cricket. Rotate these bowlers so that they are ready for match. Don't give too much load on single bowler as happening with PK now. For pacers, I think they need to spend more time playing domestic cricket before making debut in test cricket. Ideal age of debut would be around 24-25. By that time the bowler will have some experience from domestic cricket itself. At the last, create a pool of 10-15 bowlers and concentrate on them. Look after them. Indian bowling attack needs at least some variety. Look at this line-up. This is way too one-dimensional. RP Singh would have been a good option to watch for, but we don't know whether he is match fit or not. He should have been part of the team after Lords test itself. There is no planning for pacers. It's upto our domestic structure and selectors to take care of all these things. Schedules won't change, matches will played, it's team and players who have to take care of themselves and the test cricket.
kabira Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 It seems our bowlers hate bowling at left handers...As soon right hander came they were bowling better. I have now given up on Sreesanth. He just went Agarkar way. Who we have in our cupboard that can come sooni into the team?
Malcolm Merlyn Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Agree with most of your post but not this. I don't think Zak will play more than 2-3 Test matches in the rest of his career' date=' probably none. Its over for him.[/quote'] Well he is undergoing surgery now......so he will have much needed rest plus strethening and conditionoing........so after that he may come to play at least 2 years.....he is 32-33..........fast bowlers now play till 37-38........i am only assuming 34-35.
kabira Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 What other Spinners do we have ?? Ashwin, Rahul Sharma (although not tested in longer version but should play 2 ranji seasons before getting into the team)? Ojha, Abdulla (he can bat a bit),
Bumper Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 I heard Ashwin was injured, that's why Ojha was picked over him.So selectors are already thinking of him as the backup spinner. Ashwin is a bit of a wild card, but we got nothing to lose trying him.

I've seen their bowling and to be honest' date=' I'll not be convinced by any arguments like,"[b']they had a bad series.." etc. Nope they didnt have a bad series, they just had bad salary. :kxip::mi::pw::rr::rcb::csk::dc::ktk::dd::kkr:
asterix Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 Ashwin will be like Ajantha Mendis in Test matches.. I think it'll be a bad choice. He should be groomed for limited overs only. We need specialist spinners. Remember Bhajji has not retired. He will play as long as he wishes to, if he is fit. SO no point in discussing Spinners as Bhajji will keep his place for atleas 5-7 years.. We can't rely on him other than giving him under prepared wickets. So our best bet is to have atleast one fast strike bowler..
