i am not sure why they accused him of match-fixing , but those of us who were young to watch that series in 1991 have respect for his heroic innings then .

Yeah, I'm glad its all over now (well, not quite, there is another defeat looming, but 3-0 or 4-0, its horrendous either way). What I expected to be a really hard fought series turned out to be a hellish few games, where we just kept getting humiliated more brutally game after game. Despite this mauling, we've had a good run overall since the 2007 World Cup debacle. Time to begin afresh, aware of the severe limitations in our team, particularly the bowling. It will be a slow journey back, hopefully some good talents emerge in the coming years. Time to take a break from the game as well, for me.

Way back to no.1 ? Lets say if we end up 3-0 or 3-1 we end up being 2nd. So we are still around the top. or if its a 4-0 then we'll be just a point behind SA at 3rd. Next test series for us is against WI - 3 matches and Aus tour. For England its Pakistan and SL Does anyone have idea what results (series margins) would favour India to make its way back to top?

Not many points to gain vs lowly ranked West Indies but many to lose if you guys somehow screw up. Same with Australia .. even if guys manage to draw them down under you still lose points. England could lose some points as well as they have a tough tour in Lanka and a series against unpredictable Pakistan. I think South Africa has the best chance of being #1 in the near future.

Yes We are..thats why I mentioned that we will get back the focus now. This tour was an ambush , just like BD ambushed us in 2007. We very bloated with over confidence and now too.

++ + this series has been one such phase, when regardless of what you try - nothing goes your way.. good news is, it has already happened, and hope we have nothing but up to go from here.

I hope Dhoni and coach and everyone else realize that - it is not about not-losing series.. it is about giving your best everytime you take the field. Today (and 2nd inn last match) I felt as bad, as I did - when they did not give it a try in 3rd test in WI... it was a sign of things to come.

True just like we messed up big time against them a month back, if only we had sent our best team we would've won that 2-0 at least and all players would've been match-fit for england tour. :facepalm: Oh well..

For a start need to be much more ruthless when playing the supposedly minnow team. Scraping cheap 1-0 wins no longer cuts it. If want to be at the top then need to show a much more aggressive streak and beat teams well and don't take you foot off the gas.

Only one team in recent history (last decade) has done justice to their No.1 rank. South Africa, India or England may be top ranked in turns but that'll be more or less a fluke in my eyes. Of course unless they maintain it to the level which Australia did.
