msb1991 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 That's the best part of the article. Can't stress enough the importance of having ultra strong core muscles for bowling. Dunno if you are aware of it, but www.pitchvision.com/academy has a lot of stuff on cricket fitness and you might be interested to take a look around.
Fontaine Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 yes..he spends off season at MRF for the last 5-6 years since he was 15 when he was first picked by TA Shekhar. Awesome, another reason for the BCCI to ban Indian players from the MRF right? :hysterical:

koolkarts Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Bring him in, but focus on his pace not his accuracy. Accuracy will come over time, pace never does.
msb1991 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Bring him in' date=' but focus on his pace not his accuracy. Accuracy will come over time, pace never does.[/quote'] Except it has for Broad and Bresnan and Flintoff all who started as 80mph bowlers.
koolkarts Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Except it has for Broad and Bresnan and Flintoff all who started as 80mph bowlers. Fine, point accepted. But he's an Indian bowler bowling for an Indian board. And so my counter argument would be Zak, Srinath, Munaf, Irfan, Ishant and so forth.
rkt.india Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Awesome, another reason for the BCCI to ban Indian players from the MRF right? :hysterical: I know about this guy and read when he was only 17, 5 years back in 2006. He was identified as a special raw talent by TA Shekher fro MRF.
rkt.india Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Except it has for Broad and Bresnan and Flintoff all who started as 80mph bowlers. Yes..I think it is also about developing them into good bowlers. England are really good in this aspect. They have established a great academic system to develop fast bowlers.
Rightarmfast Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Except it has for Broad and Bresnan and Flintoff all who started as 80mph bowlers. Flintoff started as a tearaway fast bowler. At the time when he made his internation debut, he had just suffered from stress fracture and had remodelled his action and slowed down his pace . That was only temporary . After a few years, he started bowling his normal pace. So, Flintoff didnt become a fast bowler all of a sudden. Broad and Bresnan are sharp , they cannot be termed genuine quick. Wasim and Imran on the other hand started off as medium pacers and transformed themselves to genuine pace bowlers later. Similarly Sami too. Also Ishant started off bowling in 130's but later for some duration he was a 150kph bowler.
saneindian Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Leave the young man alone. I hope all this hype doesn't affect. Don;t think we have ever had a bowler talked about in the media so muich before he played for India. Though Varun looks to have a good attitude, is very articulate, still we would do well to not distrcat him and let him continue his development as a bowler.
Crookbond Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 We should restrict young fast bowlers from playing the shorter form of the game both ODIs and T20s. Dale Steyn career path is the way to go.

Flintoff was a military medium pace bowler in U19 cricket. SkySports showed footage of an England U19 Vs South Africa U19 game and to say he was bowling 130kph would be generous.
msb1991 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Bring him in' date=' but focus on his pace not his accuracy. Accuracy will come over time, pace never does.[/quote'] Let me ask you. Is there any evidence of a bowler who averages over 35 in FC level doing well in Test cricket over the past 20 years? Your counter argument could be refuted by someone saying that there is no evidence that any of these bowlers except perhaps Munaf were told to slow down. Therefore there is no evidence that an Indian bowler's pace is a worthwhile investment, or one which is ever likely to pay off.

Don;t you think you are trying to lower the intensity generated by the like minded people. When we all want Indian Bowlers to have pace, why are you advocating against it, agreed Varun, Umesh ,might not have set the FC scene on Fire , but atleast they are fast, a fast bowler is meant to bowl fast. Tell me , did any of the current indian bowlers set the scene on fire, to get into the Indian team. Lets take Munaf, Sree, Irfan, R.P Singh for eg: none of them were hardly featuring their state teams, they had only an occasional 3-4 wickets here and there. Sreesanth, munaf, Irfan have their best performances, in FC in the International Games, not in the Indian Domestic scene. Munaf, RP, Sree were selected only for their PACE. And we are advocating the same happen to the two bowlers too. Nothing special about it, it's been happening in Indian Cricket, the only difference is, after experiencing Indian Cricket for so long, these indiancricketfans believe that there is something about Varun, they feel can take him long way ahead , if he stays fit.

I would like to see 145kph bowlers, but I'd like to see India win more. Munaf's FC record is very good - I think he has been given insufficient opportunities in the Test team. Sree's is poor and so I've always expected him to be poor for India over the long term. Irfan has not bowled too well in FC until recently, but then his Test record is poor, especially if you exclude Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, who were both weaker than now when he bowled against them. RP Singh did well in 2004/5 and 2006/7. This coincided with the period at which he was at his best in Test cricket. Now that he is doing poor at FC cricket, it is unreasonable to expect him to do well at Test cricket, regardless of what shape he is in.

Well i'm saying 145kmph bowlers will help India more, thats a fact!!!!. There are numorous examples out there in the world. Let me know a single country who has dominated in Test Cricket without a genuinly quick bowler(s). 1) West indies : if you know so much about cricket, needless to say 2) Australia in 2000's : Brett lee, Gilespie. 3) Pakistan: Akhtar, Sami 4) England: gough( was their only strike bowler, who was quick and takes wickets) 5) South Africa : needless to say 6) Sri Lanka: Malinga. they stopped relying on murali, because of this lad. 7) current england team.: you would know how many can bowl at 90mph. RP Singh did well in 2004/5 and 2006/7. This coincided with the period at which he was at his best in Test cricket. Now that he is doing poor at FC cricket, it is unreasonable to expect him to do well at Test cricket, regardless of what shape he is in. I rate Munaf Patel, so I do not like to see him lumped in. RP Singh was picked after a very strong season, that is no coincidence. Sreesanth was picked for his pace, I believe, and where did that get us? Where has picking anyone for their pace ever got us? Well Well, i think you din't get my point, if you are following cricket for long, you would know what hype Munaf, RP, Sree created before coming into the team, not for taking wickets, but for bowling fast. RP had some good seasons, but not always a threat even in Domestic matches. Now don't come back to me saying they all can taken wickets too, and our faster one's are not capable enough. I would disagree, every fast bowler stays fast, but evolves as a smart fast bowler. So i say there is no denying the fact, that we can survive with only good medium pacers. Why support a system of selection which is flawed and based on irrationality? Exactly my point also, it;s portrays irrationality on picking RP singh. So now they should try the new comers, who are doing well. Varun has done well in FC matches BUT, we do not know what kind of wickets they play on specially PLATE division. He did extremely well in Limited Over Tournament, and let Jharkand to Victory. So that should be appreciated, and also warrants a chance in the national setup.

He had a hattrick for Kerala in Ranji so he was picked for Challenger trophy where he did well and later picked for India. Sreesanth was never a genuine pacer and will never be. He bowled some quick deliveries here and there but nothing other than that

If a bowler who could bowl 145kmph very often during various seasons, is not considered as a fast bowler then, who is ??? He has bowled over 140KMPH during his prime many a times, and that by indian standards, is Fast. So i would not consider him medium pace, he is now, but not when he was in his early phase.

I havent seen him bowling 145 for a long time and even in that series he was mainly 135. He has been mainly 135-140 K bowler. He is at best fast medium, not a genuine quick who can hurry the batsman.
