nsareen Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 READY FOR THE BIG LEAP By Baidurjo Bhose in New Delhi With 11 wkts for India Emerging Players, pacer Varun Aaron now wants to break into the national side IF IMPRESSING one and all with his pace on placid wickets during the Indian Premier League wasnÃÕ enough, Varun Aaron caught the eye as the India Emerging Players finished a successful campaign in Australia recently. Bowling consistently at around 90 miles per hour, Aaron scalped 10 wickets in the three three- day matches the most in the tournament and one wicket in the T20 format to help India finish on top in both formats. Back home after troubling batsmen from Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, Aaron said that he is now ready for the big league. Every cricketer dreams of playing for the country and I am no different. Although I have always said that my job is to pick wickets and it is for the selectors to decide if I am good enough for the senior team, I am mentally ready for the big stage, Aaron told M AIL T ODAY . Going into the IPL, bowling well against the top players across the country was my top priority and that playing for India should follow. At that point, I hadnÃÕ played much against the better players in the country. All the exposure I got was in the Ranji Trophy and the MRF pace academy. But having achieved some success in the IPL although I was out in the initial part due to injury and now in the Emerging tournament, I aim to keep performing regularly so that I make the senior team sooner rather than later, he said. Often the best of fast bowlers get carried away seeing friendly conditions and spray the ball around, leading to opposition batsmen taking advantage. But not when it is a level- headed fast bowler like Aaron. I always believe in doing the basics right, no matter how the conditions are. My forte is to bowl quick and I do that no matter how the wicket is playing. Be it Australia or India, I bowl fast. Although one would expect Australian wickets to be really fast, they were quite flat and werenÃÕ like the typical wickets that we are used to seeing when foreign teams tour Australia in their summer. It is winter Down Under and the wickets were almost dead. So they werenÃÕ that conducive to fast bowling. Even if they were helping on the opening day, they flattened out to help the batsmen by the second day, he said. While most bowlers in India complain about wickets being tailor- made for batsmen, Aaron begs to differ. Agreed that Indian wickets arenÃÕ conducive to fast bowling like the ones in England, Australia or South Africa, they have improved over the years and one has to realise that crowds come in to see batsmen score runs, he said. Having suffered stress fractures and hamstring injuries already, Aaron doesnÃÕ neglect his body and believes that as a pacer it is vital that he keeps strengthening his core. Fitness is a vital part of my training sessions. While I keep it simple during the season, my emphasis on fitness increases during the off- season. I not only do a lot of strengthening exercises and running, but also work a lot on my core, he said. Ahead of the domestic season, Aaron doesnÃÕ want to set too many goals. He just wants to pick as many wickets as possible. I donÃÕ believe in setting goals. I just want to play as much as possible and pick as many wickets as possible so that the selectors take note and pick me for the national side, he said.

Maybe because he takes more wickets than Umesh or Varun. Cricket isn't decided by the quickest bowler, it is who takes the most wickets. You can retort that Vinay preys on poor batsmen but then Umesh and Varun should be able to as well, if the batsmen are so poor.

England wudda been perfect.. i dont want him to come in a flat indian deck and get hammered around and then stupid selectors drop him.. that'd be devastating.. i wanna see him in good bowling conditions when he starts his career... confidence is the key.
