Thanks' date=' didn't know that.[/quote'] I saw him in an IPL match standing alongside Irfan and he looked taller or similar in height to Irfan who is around similar height of Zak.

But there are many bowlers who started playing test cricket without much FC and still were successful. Varun Aaron has started showing signs through EPT where he bowled on flat pitches against some good batsmen who are used to playing on those pitches and I will give him one more Ranji season to improve his FC performance before Aus tour and will take him Aus tour as a work in progress. I believe keep laying Ranji trophy will not take him or any other young prospect anywhere in their career. But some times, you need to take risks. There is nothing guaranteed in any aspect. There is no guarantee that a successful Indian FC bowler will be successful at test level.
That is a very valid point. Vinay kumar and mithun were the top wicket takers in FC tourneys proved to be crap at the international level.

You must also look at how they pick wickets,Thier buildand height and if they have the ability to do well in all conditions.Vinay kumar is more of a medium pacer getting wickets with cutters and changes of pace on slow turning indian pitches.I have more respect for mithun but he is still a work in progress.

Butl i do agree he is still work in progress and he is a pretty good athlete.

We are talking about Test cricket, right? Malinga has played 30 Tests and averaged 33.15 (boosted by performances against Bangladesh and New Zealand), Shoaib only played a handful over his career too. Neither contributed greatly to any long term success of the Test team. Mohammad Sami was an abysmal Test bowler with a terrible record. Jason Gillespie, for the most part, bowled at 135kph with the ability to bowl quicker, which he didn't do too often. Brett Lee was a highly inconsistent Test seamer who had deficiencies covered up by his stronger team mates. Look here from 2001-2004, he was poor. Lee had spates of excellence but then he did average 23.68 at the then very high standard of Aussie domestic cricket. The main point I am making is that great sides may have had very quick bowlers (though pre-Lee Australia would be an example of a team which didn't), these bowlers either had good FC records, ie. were good or they didn't have good FC records and weren't very good. Bowling quick does not mean you will be a success at Test level. Saj Mahmood and Mohammad Sami are the perfect examples of noting that extreme pace does not equal success in Test cricket. Extreme pace makes you more likely to be a good bowler perhaps, but if you cannot perform at FC level, performing at Test level is highly unlikely.
Boss, you are missing the point entirely . Agreed, Shoaib , Lee , Sami, Malinga, Thomson may not have great test record but go and ask Sachin, Lara , Ponting, Kallis who would they rather prefer to play against... Barring Mcgrath and Akram , they would anyday prefer to play against a good swing bowler rather than these quicks. The thing is, express pace bowlers may get hit or may not pick wickets all the time because the batsmen tend to be guarded and alert a bit more. And because of this pressure, they give their wickets away to other bowlers. Bowlers like Razzaq, Azhar Mahmood benefited a hell lot because of Shoaib at the other end. Same with Mcgrath and Warnie when Lee would be bowling from the other end. These pace bowlers create panic and pressure and thats why they are such a necessity. You absolutely, definitely , badly, terribly need genuine speedsters to terrorize the batsmen and send them on backfoot ! And coming back to Gillespie, he was a genuine speedster. Much like Srinath, for most part of his career speedguns were not in use and hence he wasnt measured. By the time speedguns became a regular feature, bowlers like Donald, Waqar, Srinath, Gillespie had already lost their pace. I have seen Gillespie bowling real quick stuff often in cricket and I am not going to believe when you say he was a 135 bowler.

You need a combination of bowlers which makes a googd attack.a Bowler like pollock,McGrath (who are trundlers)are needed so are the lees and the steyns.

they were not beefed up but they were not consistent. In one match, mithun was shown bowling at 121. you need to see with your eyes some if a bowler is quick or not and yes Mithun was reasonably quick some times, but no more than 14o i would say.

I dont know but they had to bowl only 2 opening overs so they could have deliberately bowled quick.

Naah, I doubt that. It cannot be. I have mentioned and explained this in other thread too !

A trundler is one is short like vinay and bowls at 125-130k only. you need to have at least one out of these two things as a fast bowler good height for bounce or pace if you are short.

Also one reason why Kapil could never become a great bowler and others did. Because he did not have a Srinath at the other end to send the batsmen on the backfoot.

But i feel we must also be careful about asking bowlers to bowl fast. Its upto the bowlers to see if they can bowl fast consitently and if their body can take the work load.So i feel that speeds in IPL should not be taken seriously as some bowlers might just bowl fast in IPL to show off that they can bowl fast even though their bodies might not allow them to.

There are days when you are fresh and in rhythm and speed just comes naturally. And then there are days when no matter how much you stretch your body just feels rusty and rigid. Playing non stop cricket, its bound to happen. Also weather conditions could be one factor. You can bowl genuinely quick in Bangalore and not get tired since the weather is so moderate. Try doing it 300 kms down south in Chennai and you will faint ! But at the end of the day, the will matters.

Eureka!! Trundler is one who is short and bowl 130k , but he is not a trundle if he is tall and bowl 130K.:cantstop: Now they should start displaying height also along with speed guns.

Really ? So what if Mcgrath had Sreesanth as a bowling partner..Or the RP Singh of today...and Harbhajan of today in place of Warnie. Tell me honestly, do you think his performance and record would have been the same. Be honest and do reply !

but Varun aaro, umesh yadav, and rahul shukla bowl fast even in domestic cricket. they made their name through first class by bowling fast then they were selected in IPL just because of their pace.
