NEW DELHI: Sourav Ganguly has said that former India coach Greg Chappell spoiled his career. Blaming Chappell's 'backroom politics' for effectively ruining his career, the former India captain told a Mumbai daily in London, "How many more times will such things (controversies) happen? He spoilt my career." Chappell's name has come into the limelight again now after he was sacked from Australia's selection panel. "Now, people will know who was right and who was wrong. Yep Chappells a fruitcake for sure.But Ganguly had been out of form for eons..

Not to mention, Ganguly played a huge role in instigating a media frenzy. Instead of keeping things private he gave interview after interview and kept bringing up the subject.

Both in the wrong. Chappell 2.0 tried to instill a more professional attitude salman BUTT he went about it the wrong way. He was too 'direct' in his approach. Naturally that did'nt go down well in the dressing room. Ganguly is the Prince of Calcutta...he takes orders from nobody, least of all the best Aus batsman since Bradman.

Ganguly is a typical Indian. Full chalta-hai, dominating, selfish to the T and "I care two hoots about you" attitude. Ganguly had no business being in the team on the basis of his past laurels, but he thought since he had "contacts", he could get away with crap. Unfortunately for him, this attitude doesn't work with tough task-masters. Greg Chappell was the best thing to happen to Indian cricket for his tenure got our relaxed and chaplus seniors so pumped up that everytime they walked onto the field, they wanted to prove a point.

And FYI, Ganguly destroyed his own career and he should be thanking Greg for resurrecting his career. How could he blame Chappell for his own misdeeds like- 1. Missing practice sessions. 2. Playing backroom politics and dividing the team. 3. Giving one crap performance after another and still expecting to carry on. 4. Trying to form a power axis parallel to the coach and the management. Had it not been for the epic kick on the butt by Greg, we would have never seen the greatest EVER comeback by any player in the past decade. The vengeance with which he played, he should owe a lot to Greg for opening his eyes.

Coming to SRT , Dravid and Kumble. SRT is the greatest batsman of all time, Dravid was the captain then. Kumble is our greatest bowler ever. So your comparison with them holds no good.

I agree with you most on that. Not sure about the Political stuff, as I stay away from politics most of the time :-) But I felt he was left out from the team way too long than what he should have been, should have not been drooped from the test side once again after the Pak tour.

I think he's better off in the commentary box. I see him play some kind of coaching role with the Pune Warriors though.

What he wanted was "change", and we badly needed a change, we were far too costumed with our laid-back, relaxed attitude. He wanted to explore new areas like yoga and have a younger team outlook. And today, he is far from wrong, he raised the first questions and it was Kristen who solved them. In the end, we needed change to improve, but for Chappell, it was only a simple point not every change will lead to improvement.... and this is where he failed. Far too many changes in one go....
