My kind of woman...and there are plenty :hysterical: Great actress, one of the intellactual ones actually. Dusky Marathan beauty who was as comfortable dancing in rain with Amitabh as she was trying to save a young Supriya Pathak from getting married to a budhao in Bazaar. Speaking of Smita Patil and Farooq Sheikh, Bazaar is a classic. Farooq Sheik played a rickshawallah wooing Supriya Pathak. And the songs uffff...Dikhai diye yoon ke bekhud kiya

Pawan Malhotra was superb in Black Friday. Gunner, if you have not watched the movie, you should find a copy and watch it asap. It's a superb movie and Pawan Malhotra as Tiger Menon is just outstanding. And I think Pankaj Kapoor's best came in Dharma. He gave a very powerful performance in that movie. It's a shame that Paheli was chosen over Dharma for Oscars that year.

Yep I am not sure if anyone would have played him better. Right down from shouting in agony after seeing his shop burnt to proudly gloating - Maamu kahani sunaate rahe bacche ne chaand chum liya.

Pankaj Kapoor was always a good actor. Although he goes unnoticed sometimes it is because he flows so easily in the role. In Jaane bhi do yaaro he stands his own as the corrupt builder against stalwarts like Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah etc.

Gunner, Lurker and the others, who are Smita Patil fans, I suggest you guys see Ardhasatya ( if you already haven't). Saw it recently. A very hard hitting movie. I won't talk about the script or the genre, I don't want to spoil your watching experience. Some strong performances by Smita Patil, Om Puri and Sadashiv Amrapurkar.

Ah, Bazaar had some suprb music. That song probably had the best lyrics ever.

Speaking of Ardhsatya is 1983 the best year in terms of movies? Atleast when it comes to clash of the best actors? a) Nasser has Masoom. b) Om Puri has Ardh Satya. c) Kamal Hassan has Sadmaa. And there is the small matter of movies like Jaane Bhi Do yaaro released same year too. Naseer, Om Puri and Kamal all got nominated for Filmfare awards that year for best acting. Has there ever been a better field for best actor nomination? Who amongst this won? And who do you guys think should have won? :antijinx:

Never watched it, but I have heard a lot about it.

It is a Mir Taki Mir special :hatsoff: So yeah if you think it is best ever, it may well be a candidate as it is not a song written, and heard, only for past few decades or so.

Chintrangada Singh is modern rebirth of Smita Patel. Almost a clone of her. Sadly there are not many movies of her. Paresh Rawal is also very powerful actor. I watched one of his theater play - "Shaadi @barbadi.com". Man!!! I have never before/after laughed non-stop for 1-2 hour. Other artists were just sort of support staff, this guy held the whole play all on his own. Same is the case with other oldie theater artists - Naseer, Om Puri, Amrish puri - Most of the times these guy have been wasted in cheap-comical-villain roles (esp during late 80s and 90s).

I think Kamal won the National Award. Ardha Satya was a brilliant film, kinda like the Zanjeer of parallel cinema.Did well too at the BO. Smita's best performances : Bhumika,Umbartha,Jait Re Jait,Mirch Masala,Arth :hatsoff:

Yeah we should...It was my thought for an article but have already jumped the gun lol. I think Ardh Satya is the only movie I have seen where the hero scared me. I saw it right about the time I was released, those were the days of 50 Rs a night VCR rental and a couple of VHS casettes. Om Puri scraed me more than Sadhashiv Amrapur, who played a Marathi villain before it became cool. The poem at the end by Chitre saab is also awesome.

Do you think was a master stroke to cast Ompuri ?Theres a scene where Smita is watching him beat people up and his face has morphed from that of a man she knew to that of a hideous creature full of rage.
