Its not if india were bowled out for less than 200 in any innings,he got enough chances and was hammered by indians in first three tests and in oval also conceeded over 100 runs.

Avg no of overs per match for Swann (during whole career) - 41 Avg no of overs per match (during Ind-Eng series) - 36. He got enough chances, I think.

first of all he wasnt needed as the seamers rolled the Indian batsmen in the first 3 tests and btw did Harbhajan and mishra do any better? when he was given a decent pitch to work with he took 9 wickets so why dont go check ur facts! who was to made to look pathetic England or India?

But if he was the world's no1 spinner as english fans claim you would still expect him to maintain control even on pitches that didn't favour spin. He failed at even that, in the 2nd test I think he went for 72 runs from 12 overs...crap figures for even ODI's. No point comparing him to Bhajji who has been on the decline for several years or someone like Mishra.

I just feel people miss one important side of the argument. No foreign spinner including Shane Warne, Muttiah Muralitharan and Saqlain Mushtaq(to a lesser extent) were successful in the sub-continent (specially India). Currently, one would have to agree that Swann is the best spinner but his litmus test will come when he plays the Indians in their backyard. Going by the look of his performance in England against India, I am personally not bullish on Swann. I think he will make be decent but not sure whether England can rely on him as an attacking option. A full strength India might thwart him before he gets into the groove.

Many people are arguing about his performance to say that he is not best. Well, being best is relative. If he is average spinner then other spinners are below average. As simple as that. At least he is best performer these days. I think pacers will be still remain main bowlers for England even in India.

Definitely, he's the best two in the lot currently. I rate Ajmal equally with him though he hasn't had a lot of Test matches to play. 11 versus Swann's 36. I hope Pakistan get more Test matches to play. Harbhajan has definitely lost his strike capability.

Batting is dominating too much and bowling is going in the gutter. Best batsmen are averaging close to 80-90 every year and spinners are struggling to get their averages below 30. @ era of flat tracks.

Swann is not the best spinner. It is a myth perpetuated by lack of cricketing knowledge.' date=' more like an acquired taste. If he bowls in India he probably would not be even the third best in the domestic ratings. Harbhajan is the best. Hands down and I am dead seriious.
