CSK Fan Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Much ado about nothing. From the little I know, donkey doesn't have the same demeaning connotation for Englishmen like it is for us in India. They probably use it for people who are physically clumsy or even stubborn. Also, Indian fans need not act so precious and give trolls the airtime and the bandwidth they don't deserve. It's ironical how these whinging fans are the ones who give the likes of Vaughan etc all the attention on twitter and elsewhere. I'd wager more than half of their followers are Indians. Even the two bit English journos boast thousands of followers courtesy who else but us! On a similar vein, the word monkey doesnt have any racial connotation in India. In fact Indians worship monekeys and treat them well. Yet it was the sensibility of the alleged victim (Symonds) which was considered in that case and not the perpetrator( Bhajji) and he was handed a punishment by ICC. Much ado about nothing for sure, but these guys cannot have it both ways. If we are forced to adhere to their social sensitivities including the notion of 'failr-play' and 'racism' as defined by their culture, they should likewise be sensitive to our culture
Serani Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 If Monkey has no racial connotation how come when Symonds touched the ball in Mumbai (maybe?) there were monkey chants coming from the stands? No racial connotations eh, they were just worshipping Symonds, give me a break and stop making excuses. Look at all these worshippers.... oUg3-vFOSEE

Symonds reaction to the the use of 'monkey' in the past was what caused the public to react in this way
Serani Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Oh so race baiting is acceptable. Great news. Symonds should have just took the racist abuse like the olden days, maybe even offered himself for lynching. You have no argument.

So you mean to say just because Harbhajan did something wrong, Nasser should do it too? :giggle:
CG Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Hussain meant indians were slow as donkeys.but vaughan is surely trying to get under people skin, may be he is still hurting from 2007 loss.
urbestfriend Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Bhajji said "maaki" - a common indian abuse, he never said monkey.please do not bring race here..

achilles Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Dhoni on the Hussain row- "That's his view and I think he is paid to give his opinion. We will stick to what we are supposed to do and that's to play cricket." Aukkad dikha di. In a very polite way, Dhoni has shown Nasser his place.

And while you are at it, don't be surprised if someone finds a video about your set of fans.... who are called "Barmy Army". Homework assignment- 1. Why is it that only Symonds was targetted, when there were equally combative players in the team? 2. If this incident was indeed so serious, why does Symonds sell his pride and come play in our IPL every year?
achilles Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Some have even tweeted saying that PETA should take action against the former England captain http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/series-tournaments/india-in-england/top-stories/Amitabh-Bachchan-slams-Nasser-Hussain-over-donkey-row/articleshow/9854547.cms PETA? :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

The Barmy Army are know for whitty banter, the trademark of english humour, hinting at them making racist chants you just sound like an idiot. HOMEWORK 1. Why was Symonds targetted? Well lets see, because he is black and that indians are inherently racist and anybody with darker skin is seen as inferior, I know all about the pathetic trait of skin bleaching that is prevalent in India because light skinned people think they are some kind of social climbers while the darker people are looked at with disdain. What a terrible third world attitude. 2. Sell his pride? So earning money and doing what he is good at is selling his pride? What a great question, I really am so puzzled I cannot fathom an answer. You got no game buddy, racism is racism however you try and paint it.

Lord Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 heard today he named the 'donkeys' he said it was meant for Munaf,Parthiv n Praveen

Iconoclast Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Oh noes ... BCCI have launched an official protest with the ECB re: Donkeygate :whine: Well unlike Ravi and Sunny, Nasser isn't paid millions by the ECB. He's an independent commentator.
