Cevno Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 His bowling has been really good though. His fielding has been amazing. Batting not so good Then he should come in as a bowler in Indian conditions, batting at 8/9.
Cevno Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Its about balance and options. yes if yuvi is 5th bowler and bowling well then great but what if dinda is having a shocker, then no option. What if yuvi having a shocker no option Ishant was doing badly yesterday. Raina was doing better than Jadeja. Yet Dhoni kept bowling Ishant didn't use Raina more and Didn't bowl Yuvraj at all.
Cevno Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 This is true. Jadeja is not such an asset to the team. but even he is doing what he is expected to do' date=' while the so called other "talents" have made the team a joke. In an Indian team playing to its full potential, Jadeja has no place, but under the present circumstances Jadeja is not such a bad choice, until we find another resource who can fill this slot.[/quote']
WeStMiDz Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 I think Jadeja has a lot of plus points going for him and when looking at the alternatives its not surprising he gets game time. But one thing that is not suitable for him is batting at number 7. He doesn't have the batting temperament nor batting explosiveness to bat there AT PRESENT. Now there are two potential solutions to this 1) If you consider his bowling and fielding to be much superior to alternative all rounder candidates then you could perhaps try to bat Jadeja up the order where he can construct an innings and then play the odd aggressive shot. He is a very useful hitter of spin but not so much against pace bowling. Switching positions with Raina could be an option as the latter cannot play long innings' but does have the power to finish off games with vital cameos. 2) Drop him and bring in an alternative all rounder. For me I don't see any superior all rounders in domestic cricket. Anyone who mentions Abishek 'I bowl worse than Kohli' Nayar as an option has clearly lost the plot.
Sooda Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 In the last 12 months Pathan has played 12 ODIs averaged 34 with the bat and taken 19 wickets Jadeja has played 13 ODIs averaged 16 with the bat and taken 8 wickets
Cevno Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 We need a batting all rounder not a bowling one FFS. A job which Yuvraj was doing very well for past 2 years. 1 bad game and he's not a bowling option anymore ? lol. Which ODI team has been succesful with 5 bowlers ? And moving him up the order is useless, as he isn't good enough for that and will decrease the team's capacity only to improve him personally.
Sooda Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 ^ we need a bowling allrounder as a 5th bowler AND Yuvraj as lord says to make up a few overs in case one of the frontline bowlers has a bad day
Cevno Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Yeah, the thing about him as a bowler is too that he is more a economic bowler than a wicket taker.
Cevno Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 ^ we need a bowling allrounder as a 5th bowler AND Yuvraj as lord says to make up a few overs in case one of the frontline bowlers has a bad day Accha which team has been succesful in ODI cricket with 5 specialist bowlers ? Even Australia played Harvey first and then SYmonds ahead of the bowling all rounder options they had.

Even Australia played Harvey first and then SYmonds ahead of the bowling all rounder options they had. Australia first 4 bowlers were good enough n allrounder was just required to bowl his overs.in our case one of main bowlers is almost certain to be thrashed
Sooda Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Accha which team has been succesful in ODI cricket with 5 specialist bowlers ? Even Australia played Harvey first and then SYmonds ahead of the bowling all rounder options they had. They had a very good front line bowling attack which meant a batsman-bowler was enough in Symonds and before that Ian Harvey was a bowling all rounder. I agree 5 specialist bowlers gives a team too long a tail so one of the five should be able to bat a bit. Id suggest a good ODI side needs 6 bowlers- four specialists one bowling allrounder and one batsman who can bowl a bit
NareshK Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Jadeja should be pushed up the order and made to bat at 5, just to see how he bats when there is more time. If he can even score at strike rate of 80, there are enough batsmen like Dhoni, Raina to strike out at the end. He could be more utilized that way than having to slog against faster bowlers which doesnt seem to be his strength. After all, we are talking about someone who scored 3 triple centuries in domestic cricket. :P

A good team needs a batting all rounder not bowling. We won the WC not far back with that combo too ffs.

Cevno Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Difference between UV's bowling and Jadeja's is not that big too warrant bringing him in and losing batting. Simple as that. He maybe a decent bowler in home conditions, but then so is UV in recent times. Abroad Jadeja has been hit around in the past while UV has done equal if not better than him. :giggle: We also have Raina and Kohli who can fit in suitable conditions. Its not like Jadeja himself is a massive wickettaker either. He can keep it tight more than be a wickettaker. Meh 6 out of 10 times UV and Raina etc.. can do that job too, while Jadeja may do it 8 out 10 at most and that too at home.

Look at the winning percentages with him, in and out of team. See UV's record with the ball for past 2 years and find me how many of our specialist bowlers have done better ? And Jadeja abroad loses that utility value too. Champions trophy is in England while next WC is in Australia where he got smacked easy.
