Team performances following world cup win

To see if winning the world cup has an impact on the team's performance in the following period, I pulled out the winning percentage of teams in ODIs and Tests exactly one year from the date of winning the world cup. Australia's performance is the best which is quite predictable given their overall domination in the 2000-2008 era, but India's record is quite mediocre following the cup wins in both 1983 and 2011.

World cup win doesn't mean dominating world cricket or even being the best team.. it just means which team played the best in the biggest tournament and handled the pressure better.

Not really.. Roberts and Holding just debuted back then... West indies didn't begin their world domination after a couple of years

5 ODIs vs Eng and WI each, perhaps 5 post the Aus tour vs Pak and a minimum of 8 ODIs in Aus yet to come for India, a total of 23 ODIs. We have a good chance of winning at least 15 of those and improve the record :P

this could be misleading.. i mean success depends on lot of factors.. like for WI tour, we didnt play our A team.. in Eng, we couldnt play our A team... then is it away or at home etc..

^ Away or home is a valid point - But playing A team is not. It is the team's responsibility to field their best 11 at any given point of time. We are not able to do this because of the hectic schedule and injuries but the wins and losses are accredited just the same.

Interesting numbers. Among the 3 worst ODI performances after after winning a WC, 2 are ours and one is Pakistan's. ( not counting WI 75 because they played only 1 game) That can indicate two things: Sub continent teams take things very lightly after winning the world cup. The pinnacle of cricket, as far as they are concerned has been reached. or The Indian and Pakistani teams that won the WC weren't the best teams of that period. They were just good for the duration of the WC.
