Indian fast bowling prospects

Boss' date=' you are forgetting Srinath's 13 wicket haul in Kolkatta and the fact that Pakistani batsmen were literally pissing in the pants at the prospect of facing Srinath in the series. He reduced Pakistan to 20 / 5 or something if I remember it correctly. But the lack of bowling partner at the other end cost India dearly. Srinath was lethal for most part of the 90's but he had nobody to support him. Trust me, if he had Zaheer Khan bowling from the other end, it would have been deadlier than a deadly bowling attack ![/quote'] I agree with you that Srinath several times put opposition in trouble ,but another fact is India had one of the best ever bowling attack produced in Cricket Srinath,Prasad and Kumble yet this attack was never considered as fearsome or destroyed opposition outside India.Just look at Pakistan, they bowled out Australia in Sydney for 130 and in England at 84 .They almost pulled the fourth test by reducing england to 102/7 .In ODI's when England was going to whitewash them Umar Gul Just had magical spell and made series alive .Even in WC 2011 Wahab Riaz almost destroyed us .This is what Indian expect from fast bowlers

One of Srinath's biggest obstacles to taking regular wickets was he did not have captains who understood how to place fielders for bouncy fast bowlers who mainly bowled indippers ( not having captained any bowler of his pace or bounce before). He bowled a bouncy indipper as his stock delivery during the first half of his carrier but most of the times did not have a fielder at short leg or leg gully where many catches popped up. Indian captains of the nineties only understood placing slips.

The pace of Srinath and Kumble and the guile and loop of Prasad was indeed awesome. :winky:

for me Srinath is the ONLY international fast bowler India has produced as Kapil and Prasad were medium pacers and Prabhakar was a swing Bowler and only one guy who succeeded and got a few hundred wicekts and had some genuine pace was Srinath. i heard of a guy called prashant vaidya who was said to be equally talented but he never could start his career ..i always wonder what happened to him..? i was told prashant vaidya, srinath and salil ankola were 3 Super star bowlers coming then.. i know what happened to Salil but always wonder where did Prashant vaidya go... even a delhi Pacer was good and pacy

Would you not consider Ishant to be an international fast bowler ? After all he has pace and bounce and has taken more than 100 test wickets ( 123 wickets from 38 tests av.34 ), something Prasad ( 96 wickets from 33 tests av. 35) and Prabhakar ( 96 wickets from 39 tests av. 37 ) could not achieve.
