bulbul Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Is it two separate innings' date=' or a continuation of the previous innings?[/quote'] its continuation... If its w different innings you dont need more than 5 batsmen.. Most pitches are roads any way
jeeves Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 this change, if it does come, just reinstates that cricket is no longer a bowlers game. 25 overs each side, with PP, the bowlers will get bashed up
Brainfade Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 It's like baseball-lite. You bat. I bat. Then you bat. Then I bat. Twice each instead of 9 times each. It would be despicable if they started using terminology like top-of-the-inning, bottom-of-the-inning and worst of all - offense and defense to describe batting and bowling. Ugh.
veer Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Mr. Duckworth Lewis will have heart fail with this new format ..
MUMBAISKIPPER Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 nope...One day cricket should not be altered....it should be more even...it's too much in favor of batsmen.....after all cricket is a game between bat and ball...why give ball the raw deal??
CSK Fan Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 this change' date=' if it does come, just reinstates that cricket is no longer a bowlers game. 25 overs each side, with PP, the bowlers will get bashed up[/quote'] The powerplay overs will remain the same as before. Its not 25 overs each side, its 50 overs. The bowlers will get more rest. Dunno where the bashing part comes from
1983-2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Tendulkar suggests changes in ODI format in letter to Lorgat One-Day Internationals are perceived to be on the decline, and none other than Sachin Tendulkar has come out publicly in support of revamping the current 50-over format in a letter to ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat. Tendulkar, the world's highest run-getter in both Tests and ODIs, wants the ICC to make "a radical switch" from 50-50 to four 25-over innings. Apart from reducing the number of overs per innings, he has also proposed several more changes for ODIs. Sachin TendulkarThe Indian batting icon, who is on the threshold of a 100 international centuries' milestone, had spoken about this new concept in television interviews in the past, but never written to the ICC in this regard. "I have been capturing my thoughts on what I think would be the way forward to ensure that all three formats in the game co-exist and ensure value creation," he wrote in the letter, seen by The Times. He argued that four alternate innings of 25 overs for each side in an international would be the fairest way of balancing the advantages gained by the team that won the toss, when pitch and weather conditions mean that a match can virtually be decided by the spin of a coin. Tendulkar's letter also proposed changes in voluntary Powerplays. In each 25-over block, Tendulkar wants only two Powerplays at the behest of the batting side, but suggested that up to four bowlers should be allowed up to 12 overs each, rather than the present limit of 10. A prominent match India lost following the spin of the coin was the 1996 Wills World Cup semi-final, when Sri Lanka batted first on a square turner. The match was awarded to Sri Lanka after an unruly crowd stopped proceedings when India lost eight wickets. Again, Sri Lanka were unlucky when they were forced to chase a large Australia total in fading light towards the end of the 2007 World Cup final in Barbados. Tendulkar also cited two games in the most recent World Cup, when evening dew helped England achieve a tie in their classic qualifying game against India in Bangalore, but then counted in favour of Ireland during their famous run chase against England at the same venue. A split into two equal innings-a-side was often proposed for the final of the domestic county competition in the UK -- originally the Gillette Cup -- in the days when it was invariably an advantage to field first, the report said. The hover cover, instant outfield drainage and sophisticated drying equipment have ensured that matches at Lord's almost always start on a dry pitch these days, but that is not the case everywhere. In Australia, last winter, the inter-state One-day tournament, the Ryobi Cup, was played over 45-overs-a-side, split into two alternate innings of 20 overs followed by two of 25. The format was generally rated a success by Cricket Australia (CA). There were more close finishes, more runs, more wickets and larger TV audiences. Significantly, the new regulations appeared to overcome the relatively dull and predictable middle-over phases of 50-over games. http://www.rediff.com/cricket/report/sachin-tendulkar-writes-to-lorgat-asking-for-changes-in-odi-format/20110920.htm
Ponka Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=272034 Ponka does a Gotham Cronie
Ponka Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Lets analyze ganeshran's reading, writing and comprehension ability. First ganeshran posts an issue with the idea and then posts a new format of cricket to counter that. I dont like the 25 over innings idea, it will encourage more slogging rather than proper cricketing shots. However a new trial format of 2 innings 50 over games could be very interesting. He couldn't understand the idea at all first up and then :cantstop: at the new format. Now gaurav92 tries his best to explain the idea in simple terms to ganeshran and also the problem with his proposed format with a big facepalm. It is just one innings split into 25 overs each, so slog overs will remain the same - the last few overs. In the first 25, they will not slog as in doing so they will lose the plot in the first innings itself  And 2 innings of 50 overs, people can't digest one 50 over innings and you are talking about 2  ...........................................________ ....................................,.-'"...................``~., .............................,.-"..................................."-., .........................,/..................................................":, .....................,?......................................................, .................../...........................................................,} ................./......................................................,:`^`..} .............../...................................................,:"........./ ..............?.....__.........................................:`.........../ ............./__.(....."~-,_..............................,:`........../ .........../(_...."~,_........"~,_....................,:`........_/ ..........{.._$;_......"=,_......."-,_.......,.-~-,},.~";/....} ...........((.....*~_......."=-._......";,,./`..../"............../ ...,,,___.`~,......"~.,....................`.....}............../ ............(....`=-,,.......`........................(......;_,,-" ............/.`~,......`-...................................../ .............`~.*-,.....................................|,./.....,__ ,,_..........}.>-._...................................|..............`=~-, .....`=~-,__......`,................................. ...................`=~-,,.,............................... ................................`:,,...........................`..............__ .....................................`=-,...................,%`>--==`` ........................................_..........._,-%.......` ................................... Sachin too tried his best. but in a 2 innings 50 over game also the 2 innings will be pretty short (like around 25 overs each) so there also we will see slogging and more T20 like cricket. But ganeshran still confused  Hmm I thought its two innings of a 25 over game. So the match will be continued from where the first 25 overs left off. Now ganeshran thinks the forum doesnt understand his idea and initial facepalms were not enough so he goes on to explain his  idea more. :cantstop: My idea was that each innings would be 50 overs and the match spread over 2 days making it 200 overs in total. :haha: Got immediate response from Sachin and Sid that would be something like "naa idhar ka naa udhar kaa" type of format and its a One Day International so would have to be completed in a single day only. What :yikes: :cantstop::cantstop: ganeshran still goes on to provide more laughters to the forum and posts this: ^ Not for current ODI matches' date=' [b']but a new trial format :cantstop: A fourth format in cricket! Not a surprise to see another facepalm  After all this can you believe it, ganeshran completes his ownage by asking same question that he asked above. Is it two separate innings' date= or a continuation of the previous innings? :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: This. ganeshran please read the posts carefully before opening your mouth and try to get some context in. Do you know why Tendulkar proposed this format? Just because value of 50 over cricket is going down in his opinion and you're presenting a new format that would basically be longer than 1 day and it will include 200 overs. Do you seriously think that 200 over format would be successfull if there are talks to revamp 100 over crickett? :haha: . Seriously get some perspective into your thinking.

ganeshran Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 :finger: Lungi saale, the two innings part had a lot of contradicting posts. My second query was to this post. Even from the orginal post that is not completely clear. Each innings would be a new innings, and no wickets would be kept from being not out in the prior innings. It would be like a mini test match in effect. Ganeshran advices Ponka to get a perspective first Regarding the other format, that was my own idea and not related to this post at all - I thought I made it clear.
asterix Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Sachin has nothng better to do? He's thinking of ODIs? He should retire from limited overs matches and concentrate on Test cricket (and it's betterment) of whatever time is left in his career..Talk about misplaced priorities.. Instead of writing useless letters to ICC, he should start writing to BCCI goons for the betterment of Indian cricket..
Aaku Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I think Ponka loves Ganeshran. New format sounds cool!! :woot:
WC2011INDIA Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Personally, test cricket needs modifications. ODIs is fine as it is. I want testmatch to be only 2 days long. 50-50 over each day. At the end of day 2, whichever team has higher cumulative total, wins that test match. Ex: India 1st day score in 50 overs - 285 England 1st day score in 50 overs - 260 India 2nd day score in 50 overs - 320 England 2nd day score in 50 overs - 335 India total - 605 England total - 595 India wins 1st test match.
ganeshran Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Eventually the format is going to change - the 60 overs a side was reduced to 50 overs. The current ODI format could either go to 40 overs or this two innings solution. But ICC wont get any motivation to go for this change until interest dwindles considerably

Kriterion Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 the most asanine thing i've ever heard. why not have 100 innings of a single over each? leave the format alone...it gets tinkered with enough as is.
