For the starters - here are some of the promising and/or innovative startups based out of India. Nowadays, the startup scene is very active in India. This is just tip of the tip of the iceberg. Disclaimer: I am not associated with any of the ones I am listing here. This is just one of my area of interest some other ICFers might share Please help expand the list with the ones you keep hearing, reading around you - and any other related news or even queries. Need not be limited to technology or strictly India based, (in that case please specify the relevance with Indian demography). 1). Flipkart - undoubtedly, this has to be on the top of list. 2). Redbus - online bus booking. 3). Myntra - online printed merchandise. 4). Groupon clones - there are at least 30 of them, and I do not have preference for anyone in particular. 5). InMobi - mobile ad network. 6). chakpak - nothing special bollywood portal, but due to their good SEO, they managed to stick in top google results for anything bollywood, and received good amount of funding.

Ixigo - Airline Booking - Bought over by makemytrip and SAIF Partners for around 100 crore in last month. Travelyaari - Online bus booking - Statup by 4-5 IIMA alums. There are a lot more around, but these are the some which have got some name in the market and have got some funding.

Makes me want to come back to India and start/become part of one.
It seems to be very opportune time if you want to start something of your own in India. Start-ups getting funding relatively easily. Not only PEs and VC's, but there are mushrooming Angel investors and seed funds. E-commerce seems to be most promising area for these start-ups. You pick up on any idea that failed during dot.com bust around 2000 and now it would have very good chance of succeeding, just because people are more internet savvy now and internet penetration is at decent level.

There are many start-ups in e-commerce domain these days. Only very few can survive and rest will fade away. Flipkart is a success story , which is started by ex-amazon people and made it big in just 2-3 years , so as 'letsbuy.com'. Redbus.in is the first comer and they are also making money. "snapdeal" is good. But those who made it big are minuscule :headshake:
