State duo gear up for pace safari-Kerala

Ū have never travelled outside India and it will be a great opportunity. Our State team has been doing really great recently and we believe with such exposure we have a greater chance of making it to the Elite Group of the Ranji next season, said Anthaf. Anthaf and his bowling partner Niyas, both right-arm medium pacers have had a prolific season for the State. Å£eing the new generation of Keral cricket, we have a great responsibility upon us. Our senior players are highly supportive, be it Sony (Cheruvathur), Sreesanth or Puli (Parameswaran), said Niyas, who trains at the MRF Pace Foundation. Both the pacers were instrumental in the StateÃÔ triumph at the D.V. Subbarao Trophy at Anantapur. While Anthaf impressed with his four-wicket in the final match against Madhya Pradesh, Niyas was brilliant with his two five-wicket hauls in the tournament. Å®cGrathÃÔ accuracy is legendary and he will be every fast bowlerÃÔ favourite. I am also a fan of Sreesanth, Brett Lee and Javagal Srinath because of their on-field aggression and hunger for wickets, said Niyas, who first hit the limelight due to his performance in the Emerging Players Tour-nament against India A in 2009. Niyas, who hails from T-hiruvananthapuram believes the fitness training he gets from the Pace Foundation has helped him in increasing his speed. On the other hand, Ernakulam lad Anthaf has cut down on the pace to be more accurate. Surely, the tour will give these boys a first hand experience of bowling at a wicket where Sreesanth shone with a five-wicket haul during IndiaÃÔ 2006 tour of SA.

Kerala had never been a great cricketing state but we are very good in other sports. Ruling Indian Athletics for the last two decades [Legendary P.T Usha even now at her 40's has more biceps than some of our cricketers :haha:] Five Time Santhosh Trophy Champions in Football and have given legends like I.M Vijayan, Jo Paul Ancheri and many more to Indian Football. Birth place of legendary volleyballers like Jimmy George,T.D Joseph Kerala supplies bulk of the volleyball players to Indian team along with Tamil Nadu. Indian women team for Asiad 2010 had 11 Malayalees out of 12 ! Has a very strong basketball team and a good school and college basketball structure also. Geethu Anna Jose, India's most famous basketballer who recently had WNBA trials, hails from Kerala. Kerala is also home to excellent badminton players like our current Doubles Team Sanave Thomas-Rupesh, mixed doubles Guy V Diju and also upcoming stars like Aparna Balan, Arun Vishnu, P.C Thulasi. Kerala is major force in women boxing in India especially in the heavy-weight class. K.C Lekha had won gold in World Champion ship in 2006 and has been undefeated in Super-Heavy class in Indian domestic scene for the last 7 years. Though now dominated by Maharashtra and karnataka, Kerala once monopolized Indian swimming scene. Wilson Cherian (Arjuna Awardee) in the early 90ÃÔ and Sebastian Xavier (also Arjuna Awardee) in late 90's was literally mining Gold from Indian swimming pools. There are many more achievements but I guess all that would spam this page ( I guess I have already done it!:giggle:) Kerala has a very good sports culture where sports are encouraged in the society and grace marks at academical level are awarded for good performance in sports. Even I have played lot of different sports in school like Volleyball,Football,Basketball,Badminton,Handball,Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and vey less cricket(Our Physical education teacher hated cricket!:--D). And about beauty, yes our state is indeed beautiful but so are many of Indian states .
