WC2011INDIA Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 IPL 2011 champions have crashed out. The stadiums have been mostly empty. Yes, even CSK, KKR, RCB and MI games... English team is alive and kicking and has reached semis. A sign of things to come in India vs england ODI series. Their bench strength is much much stronger than I anticipated I guess, I am just being pessimistic. I hope either RCB or MI win the tournament.

So that means the franchises will be losing money. I think people are getting tired of so much cricket and all these tournaments OR maybe they are saving for India vs englund series

The ongoing Champions League Twenty20 has not only failed to entice crowds to the ground but has also been unsuccessful in grabbing eyeballs on television. Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore are among the teams participating in the tournament, being played in three southern cities. The tournament which supposedly offers the highest prize money for a Twenty20 event has recorded very low television rating points (TRPs). As per Tam ratings released on Wednesday, the average rating has been a meagre 1.45. That maybe better than last year's ratings, but only just. Last year, the average TRP for the tournament was 1.44. The figure was 1.06 in its inaugural year in 2009. A rating of 3 is considered average in the cricket market, but the highest rating this year was for the Mumbai Indians-Chennai Super Kings match on September 24 at 2.24. The opening ceremony which included a performance by singer Jay Sean, attracted the lowest rating at 0.3. The average rating for the qualifiers — from September 19-21— was 1.41. ESPN-Star which broadcasts the matches, however, put up a brave front stating all its slots for the tournament were sold out. "We are in a strong footing. I've not seen the TRPs but we're doing a very healthy business," said Ratendra Basu, a top official of the company. He refused to discuss the advertisement rates, but it is speculated to be somewhere between Rs1.5 to Rs2 lakh per 10 seconds. In IPL, the rates go above Rs4.5 lakh for a 10-second commercial. The general perception is that September is not the best month for advertisements. The best period is the three weeks in the run-up to Diwali. India will be playing England then. Some abysmal TRP figures for CL. It's been a massive failure so far and I don't think with those ratings, it has been a commercially viable venture.

Media most of the time say that cricket tournaments are failure.Even during world cup I read that TRP of world cup is not good ,some of women's product companies said that they prefer IPL because women prefer T20 cricket
