saneindian Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Going by the reports in the media, selectors are looking beyond Bhajji now and want him to do well in domestic cricket before considering him for the national side. Looking at that a recall him for the Aus series could be difficult unless he picks truckloads of wickets in the initial few rounds of Ranji trophy. Also, Finger spinners have traditionally not done very well in Australia. The wrist spinners on the other hand have done better (Kumble, Kaneria, Mushtaq Ahmed, Chandana etc)

Apart from few rare exceptions wrist spinners have done better there. McGill has done very well there. The bounce they can extract helps them get wickets there.

It is up to him now, go away, work hard on his action and deliveries and mindset and make it large again.

If we believe that Ojha is going to turn matches around for us against Australia, we have got it wrong. If we feel that Mishra can fight it out for us against the Aussies, we are expecting too much. There is a reason a senior player is called a "Senior". Look, I'm no massive Harbhajan fan, but I respect achievement. Harbhajan is an achiever. He is one of the highest wicket-takers in World Cricket. He is handy with the bat too. In our mad rush to embrace players because they have good IPLs, lets not discard our proven matchwinner for years now. Also, stats mean sheet. Coz if they don't, what is Suresh Raina doing in the test team? What stats make Dhoni a Test-quality batsman? Rahul Sharma, Ojha, Mishra are good. Ashwin might be too. But as long as Bhajji is around, they need to wait.

But as long as Bhajji is around, they need to wait. Raina had good WI tour and he will certainly be out as he did not do well in England. and Dhoni is not a batsman. He does not play as a specialist batsman. he is a wk/batsman and he has done well as WK/bat. Bhaji was poor in WI and poorer in England. Had bad NZ home test series. Has never done anything off note in Australia at his peak.

Swann apart from 1 innings never really took many wickets but what he did was maintained pressure which helped pacers get wickets. Harbhajan is always at his attacking best against Australia.

Sometimes for big series we need to back big players, Bhajji has been out of form, but he was our best not so long ago, to discard him ahead of one of the biggest test series will be a big blunder, which I'm sure selectors wont make.
