Seniors are very supportive, says Umesh Yadav

NAGPUR: An unfortunate finger injury may have halted Umesh Yadav's march, but the positive person that he is, Yadav is looking at the larger picture. He made comeback to the Indian side after a gap of nine months and impressed everyone with his pace during the three one-dayers against England. The selectors and the team management have now seen his potential; they have seen what he can offer to the team but now it's his turn to fulfill the promise he has shown so far. The word pressure doesn't bother today's youngsters. They know that more than skills, it's the temperament and the ability to handle the pressure that counts the most. Yadav is no different, he is unfazed about the pressure and just wants to enjoy the game; that's the only advice he got from his seniors. "Now I realize why they are so successful. They enjoy a lot on the field; enjoy each other's success; encourage youngsters like me to do well. It's totally fun out there in the field. Credit to the seniors for the atmosphere they have created in the dressing room. Mahi ( MS Dhoni) Bhai has been very helpful and so are the other seniors. Gauti Paaji ( Gautam Gambhir) was my captain in IPL. He knows my strengths and weaknesses. They constantly give encouragement. I have been working with Eric (Simmons) Sir for the last two-three years. He has been great help to me. So, it's great to be back in the team again. Hopefully, I recover soon and perform better," Yadav, who turns 24 on Tuesday, told TOI after his return to the city. It was a brilliant turnaround by Team India after a disastrous England tour. When asked about message to youngsters before the series, Yadav said, "There was no message. Nobody discussed about that tour. The only message to us was to enjoy our games and give 100% on the field. We knew our conditions better and just stuck to the task on hand." Yadav clocked in high 140s and at times went for runs but his captain and other seniors always encouraged him to bowl fast. "They have told me to bowl the way I have been bowling. My strength is my pace and I have always enjoyed bowling fast and I will never compromise on my speed. At the international level, the margin of error is very less. I have gone for runs at the domestic matches as well but I have also picked up wickets. I am an attacking bowler who always go for wickets. I thought I bowled well in the first two matches but things didn't go my way in Mohali and that happens. I still have to work on a few areas. I will only improve by playing more at this level," Yadav, who plays for Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League, said. Yadav has been one of the fastest in the country along with Jharkhand pacer Varun Aaron, who picked up three wickets on his debut in Mumbai. Both are very good friends and shared a good rapport. The comparison doesn't annoy Yadav, who feels it's good for the team to have pacers who can bowl fast. "It's bound to happen. We both are OK with it. We have different strengths and weaknesses but we both love to bowl fast and it augurs well for the country. I am happy that he made his presence felt in his first match. The question is will the selectors pick both varun and umesh for oz? or will they go with rp,, vinay, aravind etc... My ideal attack would be: Ishant(he was brilliant last time in aus and he basically bowls short which will suit him on bouncy tracks) Varun Umesh Pk Sreesanth( he is better than vk i believe.)

Nope get them on board. The experience will be vital. We will reap benefits. They may even be to quick for aussie and cause havoc. Unless you want Vinay Kumar on the flight

Yes, but we don't have zaheer and chosing RP would be stupid. Ishant was inexpreienced when he first made a huge impact in oz. So i dont think going with bowlers who got potential and pace would be a bad idea at all. From what we have seen, umesh bowls little short so the oz pitches will be ideal for him to bowl.

In Australia, you need to swing hte bowl, thats how England beat Australia and thats how we won in Perth.

Agree. Have to turn the page and pick new bowlers - if they are good enough they are old enough and can't beat the experience of playing in Aus. A trundler like Vinay Kumar will get MURDERED in Aus as will be bowling on flat fast decks - at his pace the ball will sit up asking to be smashed. Pure cannon fodder

Even Ishant was inexperienced last time, more inexperienced than these two.

yep and they swing it at 90mph, while vinay swings it at 80 mph and crapthan at 90 kmh.
