Just like Hodge who was similarly unfortunate.There were plenty more Aussie players who were unlucky in the same way IMO

Simon Jones - Probably not relevant for this thread as injuries killed his career but he could bowl at 90-93 mph and got prodigious reverse swing. Could have been an outstanding bowler. Amit Mishra - I was genuinely excited when he debuted against Australia, i thought India had a world class bowler on their hands but he has been very average since then. Wayne Parnell - He still has plenty of time to prove me wrong but when he 1st came through i thought he would be an outstanding bowler. Has fallen away after a very promising start. Suraj Randiv - He is in danger of being an unfulfilled talent IMO. He looked really good against India when he first came on to the scene. He could spin the ball a long way, he was tall got bounce and was accurate. Nowadays he struggles to get into the worst Sri Lanka team for 20 years. Irfan Pathan - His demise is pretty saddening.

Bond did not eve pick up 100 Test wickets which is not exactly failure but definitely not among the greats or so.... And his short number of matches is essentially due to fitness problems etal. which is his problem (or partially luck factor lets say) but not good enough excuse to accord greatness!!!

IIRC he came back after Warne's retirement too but didnt click.

He cannot be called as "Great" test match bowler.. However, Malinga is a very good ODI bowler and extremely valuable T20 bowler. He will very well turn in to ATG ODI bowler and perhaps be considered as the greatest T20 bowler before he retires.
