I can see some glimpses of Steyn in Umesh when he bowls the outswingers bow

He has the pace(145ks without any effort can get upto 150),smooth run-up & action & now we saw the awaygoing movement. He can also cut it back into the pads & reverses the the ball both ways.He can improve on his groupings though & can be more consistent on hitting the right length. With more experience he can be a fantastic FAST bowler.I'm not comparing him with Steyn though at this early stage. He has to go a long way but there is serious potentials in him.

LOL at this thread. Santh has demonstrated that on his day he can bowl like Steyn e' date='g v South Africa. Yadav is a rookie but he is coming on well. Need to get Aaron in too.[/quote'] If Sreesanth wishes to and has the discipline to sustain himself, there will be similar threads about him.

Steyn can be perfect role model for him. Steyn doesn't has many variation, but he can fast, accurate and deadly.

Forget Steyn or the other greats, I would take it with both hands if someone said Umesh/Varun would end up being as good as Gillespie or Ntini. These guys definitely have the talent, hopefully they will be taken care of by a non-functional profligate system and more importantly will take good care of themselves as well. the odds are stacked against them and the journey ahead is going to be tough.

drifts on the pad too much. but he knew he was not going to get much bowling (bad light) bowled two absolute jaffers in his first over. defiantly skills and improvement.

@ganeshran The OP explicitly states that he is not comparing UY to Steyn. Just that a few deliveries of the former reminds him of the latter. It is a well known fact that Steyn pitches the outswingers far far more frequently in the right areas than yadav. Neither is he predicting Uy's future.

I get what you're trying to say, his release is kinda similar to Steyn and the seam position as well for the outswinger. If only he can be half as good as Steyn, it'll be great for India.
