Sehwag1830 Posted November 18, 2011 Author Posted November 18, 2011 Are you implying that Ponting at his peak will avg less than Tendulkar at his peak when playing Donald and Pollock at his peak, when Ponting is known to be a good player of fast bowling cool! And if that were the case, why celebrate NOW when Tendulkar is only 0.39 runs ahead :P Because prior to this year difference in their average in SA was 14.
zep1706 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 you cant leave out a particular set of innings to calculate the average. Beats the whole point of the statistic was just stating the overwhelming fact, of course that can't be left out from the total.
vamos_rafa Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I don't think so .... Last time' date=' I checked when a team has two top class bowlers playing, Tendulkar's avg goes down compared to some of his peers[/quote'] Ponting has faced bowlers like Nel, Ntini and Pollock and Donald past their primes. The other bowlers were Steve Elworthy or of the kind. He's yet to score a 100 in front of Dale Steyn.

LINK Not much between Lara and SRT. SR Waugh owns all though :hatsoff:

And if that were the case, why celebrate NOW when Tendulkar is only 0.39 runs ahead :P Ponting is a big home track bully. Most of his scores against fast bowlers have come at home
CSK Fan Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I don't think so .... Last time' date=' I checked when a team has two top class bowlers playing, Tendulkar's avg goes down compared to some of his peers[/quote'] You remember that but you dont remember that argument was torn to shreds? Boy are you thick. Plus most of the times, in those matches, Sachin got out to other innocous bowlers. So that was a stupid analysis in the first place
CSK Fan Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 BTW, one scary thing about Sachin is that he is still playing and erasing all those arguments against him by critics. Not featuring in a world cup win is one example. Now its average in Sotuh Africa. Soon his 4th innings average might also reach 50. I really pity those 'non-fanatics' who still keep on trying and have to eat their words again and again

zen Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 In SAF Ponting faced Donald for a grand sum of 4 freakin balls ... wait it gets better ... this was THE Last test match that Donald played and he had already taken his last test wkt ... wait it gets even better ... Polly missed this test match and one or two more in that series and your man cashed in. and I guess, if Tendulkar were playing in place of Ponting in those games, he would have averaged even higher :--D

zen Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Is this what you make of comparisons ? What would X do if he were playing in place of Y ? See this is why you get abused by people .... can never admit to facts ... instead come up with some peurile stuff and run down a good thread. You mean a good thread celebrating Sachin being 0.39/inning ahead of Ponting in SA Nah, what I meant was that you have do with what you are thrown up against. The point that he played less against xyz bowler means little if it the time frame is not in the hands of the batsman .... We have seen so many great battles b/w batsmen and bowlers and we know that good batsman at his peak will do well against good bowlers (who if they are at their peak too will also enjoy some success)

zen Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 And it so happens that Tendulkar got to face the best of the very best on their home turf more often than Ponting hence refuting your claim that BTW on the topic of "you have to do with what you are thrown up against" ... Then why were you removing Zim , BD etc in that other thread ? or this : seems contradictory .... No ? That's not apples to apples because I am taking about one not having an option to play bowlers who happen to retire after the first game you play against them. There is no time maching where we can either make the bowler come and bowl at Ponting or take Ponting to face that bowler .... If he had played in the same time as Sachin, I would be happy to see a comparison Ponting not having played enough of Donald puts that in N/A category, which is why that cannot be held against him .... Would be happy to see Sachin have a better record but not like this
