Gambhir says Ashwin should be ready to bowl on any pitch Gambhir says Ashwin should be ready to bowl on any pitch Indo-Asian News Service Thursday, 24 November 2011 New Delhi: Gautam Gambhir on Thursday, said Ravichandran Ashwin's criticism of Wankhede pitch was uncalled for and that the off-spinner should be ready to bowl on any kind of wicket. Ashwin had expressed disappointment over the wicket for not having enough bounce and turn. Ashwin took five wickets in the first innings but not before West Indies piled up 590. "There's nothing to be heartbroken about," Gambhir said, reacting to Ashwin's comments. "A bowler needs to bowl on every kind of wicket. A batsman never says he is heartbroken if it is a green top. They simply play on any wicket," he added. "There will be many occasions where he will have to bowl on wickets that are more flat than this one. So there is no need to feel cheated." "It is a great challenge and everyone should try to accept it and get the best out of it." "That's what Test cricket is all about. You don't get a five-wicket haul or a hundred easily. You have to work hard for it," said Gambhir, who scored 55 in India's score of 281/3 Thursday. Ashwin took his second five-wicket haul in three Tests following his six for 47 in Delhi. Gambhir said Ashwin has a great future ahead. "He has taken two five-wicket hauls in this series and has a great future ahead," he said. http://sports.ndtv.com/cricket/news/item/181421-gambhir-says-ashwin-should-be-ready-to-bowl-on-any-pitch

True...the difference is Ashwin got 4 wickets and then slammed the pitch
Exactly. Converted into a Five-for today. And I was really angry on the Curator (Sudhir Naik) when he said in a Neo Cricket show (Dial C for Cricket) that Ashwin bowled very badly. He said, Ashwin should look to ball within the stump rather than complaining about the wicket. And to be fair enough, I don't think he blamed the pitch on the whole (as it is being perceived to). In response to a Question he said, he felt cheated specifically because of the lack of bounce which is normally seen on a Wankhede square. More over, the analysts say Ashwin shouldn't voice out his opinion, then why the hell do they ask Questions in a press conf. To people who are saying Bhajji never complained about the pitch. But I have hardly even seen Bhajji attending press conf. No ? Credit should be given to Ashwin for honestly expressing his views and doing the rest of the talk with the ball.

^ agree with you. In general I think people in the cricketing world are just too touchy. Ashwin said he expected more bounce from the pitch but when he didnt get it, he felt cheated. He didn't say anything about the curator or demand for better pitches. Maybe the curator's conscience was *****ing him.

Ashwin may be right in claiming lack of bounce in pitch ....but he cant go to a match expecting Bounce, turn etc....he cant get tailored wickets everywhere... He should have used Dissappointment instead of Cheat word...

Yes he just pretends to have an injury and then sits out matches till the the series is over.

Gambhir is an idiot. While it is a challenge to bat on a green top, it is not a challenge to bowl on such lifeless wickets, therein lies the difference.

Ashwin didn't say anything offensive. This pitch was categorically criticized by all sundries not just Ashwin. He just made a comparison of this pitch with the one he usually plays in first class and made a statement.

Why can't they just have a chat with each other in the dressing room rather than exchanging notes via media? Looks like they have learnt quite a lot from Swann and English cricketers.
Agreed. Aaron did the same thing.
