Predator_05
http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/ci/content/current/story/149294.html July 8 down the years A princely entrance Off with a bang: Sourav Ganguly celebrates a hundred on debut at Lord's 1972 The Indian captain is born. Sourav Ganguly was first an elegant strokeplayer who struggled on the periphery. In 1996 he caressed centuries in his first two Test innings, in England and soon established himself in both Tests and one-dayers, a form of the game where he will go down as an all-time great. Less than four years on, days after the match-fixing crisis rocking the cricket world, Ganguly was captaining India and went on to become the country's most successful leader. He masterminded India's miraculous comeback-from-behind triumph against the all-conquering Australians in 2001 and set the tone for the following series Down Under with an outstanding 144 at Brisbane. He put together a new-age Indian team, leading India to the finals of World Cup in 2003, a drawn series in Australia and a famous Test and ODI series win against Pakistan in 2004. In 2005, though, things went downhill and he was axed from captaincy following an acrimonious row with coach Greg Chappell. He was written off by most pundits but made an astonishing comeback against South Africa in 2006 and continues to confound with his ability to perform when least expected. Ram
Excellent video tribute ! One of the greats of the game ! Take a bow ! Link to comment
theguyinallblue
it would be only correct to say..one of the greats of ODIs.. at max..he is an average Test Player..an avg of 40 is very poor... so in my book...he will always be a great ODI player and ODIs are just masala games..except WCs.. he could have achieved more..had he worked on his attitude...which was more of an arrogance... but none the less...he achieved more than he deserved..all thanks to SAR ( sachin, anil, and Rahul ) Link to comment
theguyinallblue
can we have SARS effect in england this summer.. Sachin, Anil, Rahul, Saurabh .. Link to comment
Holysmoke
needs to justify his place in the batting line-up this tour. I'd have either laxman or gambhir over him.. hope he can do that.. happy birthday Link to comment
Rahul
happy b'day, Dada! one of the finest skips in cricketing history--who resurrected IND cricket like a "phoenix from the ashes," and a super-elegant bastman to watch in full flow. not to mention, also the owner of the title of the greatest comeback man ever (stole that honor from mark waugh and jimmy amarnath), until sehwag proves me wrong (or unless BCL comes back). hope to see a super-elegant ton from the man in his last series in the ol' Blighty. dial_100
Belated Happy Birth Day !! Dada. I wished he had performed to his potential in his career. He should have been very close to SRT and Dravid. But nevertheless, I love watching him, when he at the crease. Link to comment
