Our batters need to step up big time as they have been struggling in test matches for quite a while now. They have only 2 innings against the windies in the just-concluded test series to show for their efforts in more than 6 months now. The one thing that is different this time around is that we are playing 2 warm up games before the first test and that should really help. I'm excited about our bowling line-up and am hoping that our batters stand up to their billing. So anything from an aussie win to an indian win is possible in this series and that makes it fairly exciting.

Another bad series for Gauti and there would be calls for him being dropped. MSD would find it difficult to retain his test captaincy. Ishant would have to end his wicket drought else he too would be under the scanner. VVS, in all probability, is playing his last few series. The ray of hope is the fact that unlike the England tour, we are not going to this series after playing non stop cricket, we have our regular openers back, the pace bowling strength on bench looks much better, our spinners are not looking jaded, the captain will have a decent break and the entire team has played a test series just now, so can expect them to be better planned for the Aus series. We will also have about 15 days of preparation (for the leading players add a few more days) and 2 practice matches before the test series begins. For England we had 8 days of preparation and 1 practice match. Also unline England, every player will go into the series with a couple of recent first class matches (besides the practice matches). just losing 2-1 wont have any effect , unless Big 3 decided to hang up.... 4-0 will have serious implications...but thats never going to happen agaionst this avg OZ side

If we get absolutely thrashed then only will a lot of players will come under intense scrutiny.

This aussie team is not good enough to beat this indian team. Draw or india winning will be the result. We are lot healthier team now that we were in england. We had two passengers in the team with unfit sehwag and what not.

I don't see Sachin or Laxman making one more trip to Australia. They'll do well and will end up careers without having a failed tour to Australia.:two_thumbs_up:

You don't drop brilliant and consistent match winners like Gauti after 2-3 bad series'. M$D will not lose his captaincy because he is the best man we have right now to lead this team. As for VVS playing his last few series' - that I agree with. In fact I'm quite sure that both VVS and Dravid (and maybe even Goddy) won't play very long whether we win or lose here.

Even the stupid Indian selectors have so much sense to know that Legends of the game cannot be asked to leave just because the team lost 2 series' badly (i.e. Eng and Aus series). Also, do you really think we have players ready to replace even one of the big 3 ???

And yes they can still play 2-3 yrs. more (depending on form, opposition & pitches) but inevitable is round the corner.

Dravid - highest number of runs in Test this year ; VVS - over 750 runs this year (is the 6th highest scorer of the year till now despite having a rather mediocre year) ; Goddy - hasn't been at his very best since the WC ended but has still made around 500 runs and it was only last year that he scored over 1500 runs with 7 centuries........and then you have the audacity to say they are past their prime.

The same stuff was being said back in 2007 as well - sack these seniors, bring in the new blood etc. For a country that prides itself in on its batting strength, it is frankly embarrassing that we can't even find one young batsman who can cement himself in the Test side.

Old guy Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 i disagree with waugh its old aussie tradion there exp layers pressurise india by doing these things last time it was johnson who was ognna destroy india along with ya we lost but we all know what happened in sydney...back then we were equals in the end.. series before that 4-0 lmfao it was 1-1 we will win this time if batting holds up bowling will get better as series progresses cos lots of young guys in team only ishant ,zaheer toured last time
Old guy Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 i am comparing to old OZ teams...also this is the weakest OZ team we facing in OZ in some years.. having said that our team also not much above them..... the overall cricket is itself Avg now a days.. so true what we did in england even if there were injuries was shameful dravid scored runs... otheres could ve too bowling tried its best but really had no chance u dont expect rp singh to go there and play and win for u ishant tried his best but if u dont pick wickets u cant lead attack :(( lets hope batting holds up like it did in south africa and bowling improves! these west indies odis are interesting cos i will be able to see bowling line a bit more
