IMO shouldn't try to replicate McGrath. His height allowed awkward bounce and subtle seam movement were his main assests along with relentless accuracy. You have to do what works for you in international cricket .Yadav should play to his strengths and it is working so why change. I do agree though this has been blown out of proportion, I don't think Yadav meant be exactly like McGrath. Only idiots so far have been Ishant wanting to be a swing bowler like Zak :hysterical: Ok Munaf lost his pace but still was decent in ODI.

Only idiots so far have been Ishant wanting to be a swing bowler like Zak :hysterical: Ok Munaf lost his pace but still was decent in ODI. munaf was brisk who moved ball a bit..so was succesful..and was fairly accurate but then he lost pace ishant wont swing like zack but now he ries to bowl like only one bowler ishant. so he is on right track.. earlier idk what he was trying to do (in south africa series ) yadav will only improve imo all wicket taking ablls are there.. he just needs to learn accuracy and learn art of read pitches. and quickly change length according to pitch.. he already has swing..reverse swing.. yorkers,bouncer and now he has control too if u saw last odi he was doing things on will like that ball which hold its line.. and almost got him lbw he should not try to be like mcgrath like u said he does not really bowls like mcgrath he is totally diff .. he should try bowling like steyn.. cos he is similar to him than mcgrath.

Even in WC1999, he was recorded over 140ks. It was a natural reduction in pace for McGrath. He never lacked the effort in bowling fast. He used to put all his effort while bowling and try to bowl as fast at consistent line and length. His bouncers used to be much harder to face at 135K or so than any other 145K because they used to be effort balls and directed well and used to be deceptively quicker than what speed guns showed. Similarly, he had fantastic yorkers to bowl at the death as well.

Their build and style of bowling is different. Yadav would do well to emulate Tim Bresnan who has such consistent speeds and who is build similar to Yadav.

Most of them declare it boldly right from day one that they are here to discuss only pace bowling with unambiguous user names like NeedforSpeed, Jeffthommo fan etc etc.. Man half of the thread on first page are about pacers and pace bowling. People, get it real. Cricket is all about batting and batsmen. Bowlers, be it pacers or spinners, are just to get the game going :winky:. On a serious note, I would say it is good change from the state where majority of the threads were about stats of batsmen. I say open a separate forum for pace bowling and make RKT moderator of that :two_thumbs_up: I am the first Pace Fanatic of ICF. No one used to talk other than batsmen here. I changed it.

Coming to Mcgrath, I think he did slow down a bit but only because he wanted to concentrate on the bounce he would get, not just the ' wicket to wicket ' bowling. It was his bounce with the length he used to bowl, which made him awkward to face. However, Mcgrath towards the beginning of his career was not a deadly bowler which he became somewhere around 97 onwards. So Umesh honestly has just got to be himself and learn it naturally with time. Natural progression.

It was his bounce . i was just joking. regarding mcgrath, even in wc 1999, he clocked over 140 and he was successful even before 1997. i watched a video of him 1994 ashes in england and he was pretty quick and destroyed england then.

ViruRulez Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 The one thing I hate about media in relation to sports is that they make out a star as soon as somebody performs and then keeps on asking questions all throughout the day .. at the same time these kids need to understand how to handle the media .. maybe they should take some lessons from Dhoni in terms of media handling.. a bit too much talking bites backs more often than not
