If Uthappa wants to be considered as WK batsman for ODIs he should keep wickets for karnataka in Ranji Trophy ODIs and Challenger trophy.Unless i am mistaken he played as a pure batsman in both these tournaments. With 2 new balls in ODIs we need openers in ODIs who has solid technique.Rahane would be perfect for that when Sachin retires. We should be giving as many opportunities to Rahane not makeshift wk openers or incompetent batsmen like Parthiv.
thats what im saying ..this guy is really solid if u really wanna protect him keep him away from t20s idos arent that bad u learn how to build innings.. and get international exposure

Neihter IPL nor ODIs spoiled Vijay. He was found out in tough conditions. He even failed in world T20 for a reason. EVen if given chance he will definitely score big runs in India in flat wickets but he never had the technique.Playing classy shots dont mean u can have the technique. The way his technique was exposed by Nehra in the last ranji match was laughable. The same wicket Mukund was scoring with comfort. Vijay should never have been selected ahead of Rahane or Mukund in the first place.

i get your point but i dont think 50 overs cricket spoils u ipl spoiled vijay imo ya its less challenging then tests and even with faulty technique u can survive but still it does not make u slog..or make ur technique unfit for tests..u learn bad habits from t20 hitting every ball from front foot..no defence required (in odis u have to defend fairly regularly)
You should have seen Vijay bat in odis as well - his staple shot after a few dot balls used to be a cross batted hoick across the line between mid wkt an wide long on, and that's why he averaged so low in odis. Because of the pressure to score quickly in odis and T20s he tried to manufacture shots which creeped into Tests as well. Kohli and Rohit are a different beast altogether as they have shots round the wkt and can score at a high rate without going against their natural game. However likes of Rahane, Badrinath, Pujara, Vijay are limited in the shots they can play and are not the best fit for odis, but are ideal Test players. Just because these players average quite high in FC doesn't guarantee that they will succeed in odis. This is why I would rather let Rahane, Pujara etc. establish themselves in Tests and then allow them to get into odis, and not the other way round.

Don't think Dravid did so for Karnataka but he did for India. We can do the same with Uthappa and at least see what he's capable of.

didn't saw that match but yes he was found out in south africa.. then against west indies but tbh he looked much more spolid when he came in test team he didn't played with straight bat much more often.. and never tried to slog with that half pull of the front foot he picked that up in ipl.... well we are lucky we have good solid batsmen..and also people like uthappa who re peffect for odis,t20's

There is nothing wrong in that. But my point is unless he start keeping for Karnataka he will never be considered as WK batsman option by selectors. And u cant blame then. Remember when Dravid was asked to keep wickets by Ganguly he was already one of India's best batsman. So even when he made a mistake no one ever questioned his place and everyone knew he was doing it for team's cause. Not the same with Uthappa and if Uthappa 's batting becomes affected by WK then its not worth it really.

saw him against UP this season... he has good figures but when you actually look at the way he bowled' date=' he looked ordinary... i mean not threatning[/quote'] give him chance wont do much worse than munaf' and if he is good.. than its gr8 for india otherwise its just 2 odis against west indies

I am not sure why Gony is not talked about much , I saw a few Ranji games this season he looked better then the other bowlers, Dinda is better then irfan who needs more time, Mithun , VK .nECHIM SHOULD BE GIVEN A BREAK, HE MIGHT BE A GOOD ODI PROSPECT, slingy action , pace, swing , might reverse , bowls yorkers.

We will think about it but right now we are not worried about Parthiv. Such things happen with the opener when he comes out to bat after 50 overs of fielding."
Is veeru talking about himself too. Why not bring in Uthappa or Rayudu..Both can keep wickets. After all Dravid kept wickets for India.
