Should Gambhir be replaced by Rahane/Mukund for the Aus tests?

Against who. Show his last 20 scores and opponent outside India. Is the abuse really necessary at the end FFS
Played well in SA against Steyn and Morkel. It's not an easy place to score runs as I'm sure you will know after watching the Aussies recently. :winky:

Rahane was dreadful in the warm up games against bowling far less potent than Pattinson and co. He might plunder runs in the Ranji Trophy but Test cricket is a different kettle of fish altogether. Mukund showed good temperament but at this stage has several technical flaws as England showed. We just have to hope Gambhir can find that one innings which can turn around a batsman's fortunes.

Back in domestic is th only place for Gambhir. He is worse than useless outside India. Play hime domestically and pick him for home tests only. Close to time for Laxman as well. MSD not at the level of other captains in my view, lets the indian side down
what a ****. one game win and he's on the everest... Look down you *******, you are coming from a home loss to the NZ. The series aint over yet. Look at your batsmen first then look around to comment on others. OZ batting line up was plan BS. Their tail added some 200 runs, which is mainly luck. The bowlers were fantastic though.

Rahane sucked in warm up. and Mukund sucked in whatever amount of opportunity he got. He only looked good when he was out of the national side and playig in warm ups or against Ranji side. Thats a fact. Sehwag-Gambhir were out for quite a lot but no one reallhy played anything special to seal their position. They might eventually get a chance, but don't deserve on this tour. Let's just shut the case.
Disagree. Mukund did have some technical flaws but every match he played on were in bowler friendly conditions. He showed some promise and should have remained back-up opener for this tour. If we lose this series by the end of the 3rd test and Gambhir has not performed well, then there may be a case for dropping him.

Cool down, what have I said to you to warrant the tirade!! Back o subject, Aust have had a lot of mixed results (this happens when you are rebuilding a team) however I think prospects in the bowling space at least are promising. A few more changes to the batting and more improvement will be seen. I have no issue in putting most of the Indian top order among the top batsmen going around. It is a formidable line up. Gambhir IMO is not in that league and his results show it (save for one series in SA in 2010). All I am saying is maybe there are others in India that deserve a chance or that may provide a better opening option for India - maybe it is a move down the order (i think the comments about his technique are more accurate though and batting order No. will not fix that).

How the eff did mukund suck in england? He looked pretty good apart from that rash shot at trent Bridge. He improved as the tour went on.

Gambhir has been a contributing part of probably the most impressive Test run team India has ever experienced (once a #1 team, if you wanna call it that). For that reason, it's very hard for us Indians to look at Gambhir as an outsider. Every batsman now a days have some sort of fault in technique (exclude the likes of Sachin, Ponting , Kallis etc). The fighter we have seen in Gambhir is missing somewhere and we are not ready to give up on him just yet. He may have some technical faults but over all a very handy guy to have around. Trust me, he'll bounce back. India has some very promising young guns in the domestic arena but there are major doubts on them to play well away from home. Guys like Gambhir, Dhoni, Yuvraj (in odis) are sort of like a bridge for India from the senior most players (Sachin, Dravid etc.) to the upcoming generation. We want these guys to carry on the good stuff from the seniors and bring it to the new generation after the seniors retire. All that Gambhir has learned about international cricket will only help us groom the youngsters few years from now. We can't just let go of a well trained guy and wash away all the hard work. Otherwise, i agree with you.

Ponting has a serious technical flw on balls on the full side of a good legnth about a foot outside off stump is when it is highlighted. His footwork coming forward outside off stump can be quite poor. You should see if possible how he has been dismissed over the past 2 years. Most by a lot will be for being caught at gully or thereabouts or chopping on. As for the young guys, IMO the best solution to help these guys mayure a little earlier is to send them to other countries, Aus, NZ, Eng, SA and WI to learn the differneet pitches and playing conditions and to compete against current and emerging talent in those countries. I see a lot of internationals coming to Aus recently and think that will pay off. Aus resergence in the 80s and 90s can be put a great deal to sending players to Eng and SA

This. As for Ponting, look man there may be some minor flaws but he's so good in all other areas that it overpowers everything else. Let's be honest, which batsman hasn't seen a lean patch? Maybe Bradman hasn't but other than that I can't name a single one. The fact is that we expect so much from guys like Ponting, Sachin, Dravid etc. that some of their good performances go unnoticed. I think Ponting has been doing alright for past few months now but not to his potential.

^^Ponting has sucked for the most part. Don't let the recent 60's and 70's fool you. He's not the same dominant force that he was from 2002-2008. The guy was falling over trying to play the short ball. Seriously? For the most part, we bowled pretty short to him. Ishant gifted him an easy boundary. Ponting wouldn't have made more than 10 runs if he was playing on this same pitch against Anderson and Broad.

These guys are champions in the business and they tend to bounce back given the time. But I hope Ponting sux in this series :winky:

Even with how pathetic we bowled to ponting in the 2nd innings, the guy wasn't given lbw when he was out. Says all about his form really.

I agree. His strong bottom-hand grip and tendency to jab at short balls outside his off-stump make him very ineffective on seamer friendly tracks. Having said that, he may still come good at the SCG and Adelaide if the tracks are flat, but he's a walking wicket at Perth.

Ponting is a great batsman on name and reputation but you can only rely on the past in terms of looking at records. All you need to do is look at the past couple of years for Ponting's form. IMO and it is backed by some stats related to his performance, most sides have worked Ponting out. Check the last time he scored a century - it was a long time ago. He gets out the same way all the time. He has the odd 60-70 atthat is based on his ability as a great batsman but he always looks scratchy. Australian selectors have a lot of trouble pushing past ccaptains and long term players out of the side. Not necessarily saying Ponting should be the first to go (there would be others in the current side to go first) but look at the records, Hayden, Taylor, S Waugh.
